Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Since this is a layoff site: newest news for CBU

Moving this back up to the top. This is going to be the next most significant layoff in terms of timing. Prove me wrong.

Our Oil Sands stake was worth easily 6.5B. KD went for free. Surprised we didn’t offload Liard too.

Chevron Corp. agreed to sell stakes in oil sands and shale assets in Western Canada to Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. for $6.5 billion.

A huge price! Someone in BD got a nice bonus for peddling a tu-d to CNRL.

Key word is “equivalent”. Don’t be bullied into taking a lesser job and giving up your package. Talk to a lawyer.

There are town halls with CNRL early this week. Looks like they are planning to take most employees and contractors supporting KD and AOSP, including Calgary staff. Chevron will not offer severance if CNRL offers an equivalent job.

East coast and all the legacy stuff in BC and the Arctic is what’s left. Will still be a Canadian office but very small.

Dec 6th is the last day for KD and OS teams!

Will people in supporting functions get packages? I'd imagine CNRL has tons of their own accountants, HR, supply chain folks?

So only part that will be left is East Coast offshore?

The saddest (for employees) but the most predictable outcome possible. Everyone in Calgary knows that if CNRL is buying you it means nobody else was willing to and you got sold for pennies on the dollar.

CNRL it is. Whoever thought it was for sure KUFPEC got it wrong too. At least we know now and can stop these over the top rumors and figure out our next steps.

Partner would be stupid to take the whole workforce, so many useless team leads and managers.

Smart move by KUFPEC. Buying the asset now BEFORE we double recovery will save them a fortune.

Not a Chevron employee but I was working the purchase from the buy side. None of these takes are correct. We had a deal in place months ago, but your partner exercised their right of first refusal. Believe y’all went into litigation a few months ago, and it went silent after that. Last I heard, the whole workforce is being transferred to the employ of the Kuwaitis. Have fun with that.

Why would cnrl buy kd? (Wrong answers only)

They want people who know how to align and inspire, grow capabilities and build relationships.

I hope you’re right about timing, waiting almost 9 months for any news has been pretty painful

@jkt, key wording is "as much as " You think you're "entitled" all right, but not in the way you're thinking. There is no guarantee nor promise that you'll get any 24 months of anything. From past experience, you'd be better off at another location in that respect.

@urw+1uRxVThS this is Canada (thankfully) and the Fair Labor Standards act doesn’t apply here. We have the Employment Standards Code and are entitled to as much as 24 months’ pay for a non-unionized employee in Alberta. Tell me you know nothing about Canadian labour laws smh.

Don't be so sure that there will be any great severance. That is all arbitrary and this time could very well be different. Most companies give 2 weeks of pay. Period. The only thing most folks are going by is past history. There is no guarantee of that all. It's 100% optional for the company to offer any severance at all and it's no big "payout" for most, not by any stretch with inflated prices of everything these days.

"There is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for severance pay. Severance pay is a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative)"

The Canadian payouts will be due to the laws there, not sure about anywhere else in the world.

Who cares about timing, will the payouts remain strong? Asking for a few dozen friends.
