Good luck
I wanted to post an update. When I made this post on 10/18/2024 I was shocked that it happened. My boss had moved my 1:1 to Friday from the usual midweek. I had read the rumors about this being a RIF day, and as I drove into the office I did so with a brick in my stomach. I kept telling myself I was being over dramatic. I sat through the bi-weekly staff meeting and everything was normal. As I sat in a cubical surrounded by strangers, I got a brief greeting out to my boss... then like the angel of death an HR rep came on screen... and for a brief second I thought maybe it isn't what it looks like. Then my boss started reading that stupid script about it being "dynamic times". I entered what was a horrible job market. I applied for hundreds of jobs to get only a few interviews. It was brutal. My Masters degree and 18 years of industry experience didn't get me anywhere. When my unemployment ran out I was reselling to make ends meet, it was tight but working. Trying to hit the emergency savings as little as possible. After months I finally got a job offer.... and I took it with out blinking twice. Now the job market has gotten even tougher, and i'm rebuilding my emergency savings again for the next rain storm because I came back after all that. Call me stupid, but a job is better than no job.
@1udi+1v384Oap+3 - well said!!
You will be ok. Promise. I was rif’d earlier this year. I was ok with it. While speaking to a director I said “there are worse fates than being unemployed”.
She responded with “yes, you could be one of them that stays”.
Don’t look back. Onward and upward my friend.
Dim the light, and close your eyes. Let's set this scene.
You've just been rifed. Your boss and HR treat you like garbage. You don't understand the supplemental benefits yet. You're scared. You're probably crying or trying not to.
Then, BAM! You realize your number one priority is to go on a forum and post your dept so other people can feel better.
TDLR - it is not your colleagues responsibility to communicate their situation to make you feel better about whether you're on the list, or, most likely, you just want to be captivated by tragedy. The people to direct your vitrol at aren't the ones you're trying to bully. Aim higher. See if you can bully the HR and Culture peepers into telling you and then make sure you IMMEDIATELY come here to post it so you don't become a hypocrite.
Rif friends - stay strong, this is utter chaos, but there is life after the dumpster fire.
Non-rif friends - be kind to your colleagues whenever possible because yes, this is an org crisis, but treating each other poorly contributes as well. Teach the leaders the culture commons lesson on resilience and throw the stones their way. They're paid enough to deal with it and we always have the CARE program to refer them to.
Sou you need a welfare check : @1rxq+1v384Oap? Serious question. Sounds like you are literally going off on the deep end. 51/50 hold and fmla. Something is seriously wrong.
So sorry to all of those impacted this week. Thoughts are with you all.
That’s some entitled next level narcissistic gaslighting skippy. Thinking that someone who just lost their job owes you anything.
“ A RIF is literally a crisis and could effect the whole company and remaining employees. To not want to reveal the department is just selfish af., and childish The LEAST one could do is simply state the department, so that others can be informed and prepared, and have peace of mind. To keep it a secret is cowardice of you... what was your point of coming on this board crying if you don't even want to help your peers? You wanted some type of one-way street of condolences and virtual tissues without helping the people around and behind you? Good riddance to cowards who clearly do not care about anyone but themselves and just wanted to come on here crying for whatever reason, attention maybe? You are not important enough for anyone to know, nor care who you are. People are just wanting to know the department so that they can try and survive. What is the purpose of coming here to s-b and lament getting RIFd and not even share what dept it is in, on an already anonymous board? And you are RIFd so what are you all protecting if you no longer work there? Good riddance, then because, if the shoe was on the other foot, you would also want to know.”
@1r. You really sound like you are becoming unhinged. Maybe you should stay off of this site for a awhile.

I’m 6 months pregnant and they not only laid me off effective 11/15 but also lied to me saying they decided to make the decision based on seniority. That said they did not get rid of any one else from my team who started after me. The HR person didn’t even know I was pregnant because my boss failed to inform them.
They got me also. Under Rat 🐀
The department doesn't matter no one at this company is safe except the offshore work. They are known for layoffs. If you still have your job and are on this site I suggest you start preparing for the worst and find something else asap.
How do you think knowing the dept prepares you? A rif in your dept, even on your team, doesn't guarantee you safety or rif.
Please prepare anyway. Assume that your job isn't guaranteed unless it's contracted by a regulatory body. It is clear to me that this is not a company to settle down with. You need trust and loyalty, of which, regular associates feel none of.
The only way to diminish the anxiety is to prepare regardless. And please remember your personal life and health are more important. If there was ever a time to recognize that the company doesn't deserve your extra effort it's now.
@tmm- Those that were RIFd today are not obligated to tell you what department they are in and to ask them to do so is rude! Don't you think they're already dealing with enough? Show some consideration for them and stop asking it's coming across very selfish.
To those that were RIFd, please take sometime to take care of your mental and physical health.
So sorry and none of us know if we are next. Terrible.
In broad terms, I was in health solutions. Last day 11/15.
Me too! Position “eliminated”. Last day 11/15
This is super scary, and no one os sharing what department they are in, on an already anymore board! People need to know which department, so that they can be prepared.
Please stop asking people what department they are from, we need to respect peoples privacy and their wish to be anonymous. Sometimes only a few people are laid off from a department and doesn’t take much to piece together who it was.
I got the RIF today too. I knew it was coming from being on this site. I had the meeting on my calendar for a week. To the person who said they would have liked a reason….there is no reason other than greed. They are just telling everyone it’s restructuring. To the person who put work above their family….please never do that again. It’s just a job. Nothing is more important than the ones we love. Luckily bc I was aware from this website, I had already been working on a certification so I can apply for better jobs and I’ll be graduating 10/27. Oh, I was technically on the sales team but I worked in a completely unrelated department. Weird but here we are.
Has anyone heard the number from today?
Why won’t anybody say what department my anxiety is going through the roof? I have a meeting in two hours.
One more that was let go today. Thoroughly disappointed in the way it was handled. I had glowing reviews. Should have been given some kind of an inkling this was coming my way so I could have started applying..I was neglecting family and immersed in work all along. Didn’t see this coming
I was laid off today as well. Honestly, I feel that I am to blame. Not because I didn't do everything within my control but because since I started with this company leadership has been incompetent. There is no true vision and things are always "transforming". I saw that this was a sinking ship but I failed to jump off. My unsolicited advice to anyone who remains. Please be proactive and jump ship while you can.
So sorry
What department?
I think I’m on the list today too?
So sorry to hear about that. Would you please share what department you were part of :(
Really sorry again
They got me to! And they offer no legit reason as to why your being let go.
Sorry to hear about it. May you find something else better soon. It's Gail's loss to let you go.
Thoughts are with you to find something better!
Sigh 😔 Wishing you the very best in landing your next gig.
While it may look like one of the most difficult days of life, please think about all the things that you still have control of. There will be a time when you will look back at this time and be thankful for the trajectory you had traversed. You will no longer have to worry about the Thursdays/Fridays. Remember, nothing than rid you off your skills, positivity and above all, emotional intelligence. Wishing you the best, OP! There would be a better future for you somewhere else where real humans will be developing/building a company up.
So sorry :( Remember, focus on your own mental health and well being these next 30 days.
So sorry :(
