Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

I'm this close to being done with Seagate

Everyone I'm working with is drowning in work right now. It's getting pretty worrying because we simply can't keep up this pace without risking burnout. This year is already tight as it is, and we can't afford to drop the ball, but I'm not sure how much longer we can continue like this. We're all just barely hanging on by a thread. And they want to lay some of us off? Sc--w that.

@1pix, let me scan your comment with my Management D-Bag Detector…. Just as I suspected a MDB! It’s that kind of entitlement management think that caused the Electricians to go Union at NRM!

Wonder how you would handle a 10-15 percent pay cut.

We're all just barely hanging on by a thread.

If you leave, the company won't care. Maybe your manager will care, maybe the coworkers who depend on you will care, but the company as a whole won't give as sh-t. Just a headcount reduction of one with a corresponding reduction in expense. You won't be back-filled.

Do what is right for you.

Then leave.

The problem is, you can't because

  1. you work at a HDD company,
  2. there are only 2 HDD companies left,
  3. the other one has its own problems and
  4. tech overall isn't hiring

If you aren't and haven't been, you should be on the chopping block.

Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and say these magic words three times to reset your mind: "mission first, people always!"

If you are asked to document your work, chances are you are next to go.

Learn to say no. If you get laid off at this point who gives a F.

Right there with you. If I get one more thing dumped on me I’m likely going to cause a scene. It seems like everyone left either does little to no work or is completely buried. It’s exhausting mentally and physically! I’ve had 2 requests in the last two weeks that amount to providing written documentation as to why I should remain employed. As if I’m not doing enough already.
