Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Still a great place to work huh!!!??

Where are the "love my job" people!

I bet you were shaking when these lay offs came down.

And anyone who STILL is employed....don't be a fool and start looking. Even if it means sacrificing a small cut that won't do too much damage. Centene is NOT the place for stability!

I was layed off from Centene on 10/24/24. I am out on STD due to a surgery. I was NOT notified and found out by texts from co- workers that were sorry to see me go. When I called HR (on hold for 1.5 hours). I told my story and 10 minutes later received a call from the markets HR person with the official news(5:30PM). I was told by staff that the market VP stated earlier that day in a meeting that I was to be replaced with a lower level position doing the same job. 10 years with the company. Yes, there are issues with Centene!

This company has consistently laid off employees every year that I'm personally aware of since 2010. It could have been earlier, but I wasn't there to witness that. Some years it was mass layoffs, some they took out smaller departments and sprinkled in some from other areas. This is not something new that just started. It's the way they operated with MFN in charge, and how it continues without him. The job market is not great right now, so the longer you look the better chances you have to find something else. And, I've seen some posts saying leave Centene off of your resume. That's not true. I was laid off and my experience before Centene, in addition to mine there, was never spoken about that way. My access was cut off the day I found out, but they paid me for the next month, then provided severance and assistance with the health insurance premiums, etc. Good luck to all.

“Still a great place to work?” I’m sorry but I’m here, because the company I used to work for was purchased by this dumpster fire. Been here a few years and I’ve never heard anyone say that “this was a great place to work”. I’ve actually met people that worked for WellCare, and they say that was a good place to work for.

I’m in a team of 8, because manager laid off 4 last year. He has spent all year hiring people to replace the 4 he laid off.

Centene has been laying people off every year for the past few years. Last year was a huge, because it got leaked, and they had to address it in the town hall. Then Drew said that they would be more downsizing in 2024. I would not be surprised, if they laid people off on the first and second quarter this year. They laid or msg still be laying people off this quarter, and would not be at all surprised if they lay people off in the last quarter of the year.

You clearly didn't read the article. It says outright that they announced plans to layoff 2k.

They never announced previous layoffs so no, you'd never know until it's you. That's why the leak of the October layoff was such a big deal. No one knew that had already conducted two rounds of layoffs of about 5k!!

Add all of the people who are announcing they've been let go right at 60 days after the article, and you want to argue it's talking about last year!!!??

Article is dated June 1, 2024. Where do you see it's about layoffs from last year???? You must have also missed it when Drew said at the TH last September that there would be more layoffs coming in 2024.

"Did Centene Experience Layoffs In 2024?
Yes, Centene has experienced layoffs in 2024. In a recent announcement, Centene revealed plans to lay off 2,000 employees, a decision that has sent shockwaves through the company and the healthcare industry as a whole. This move comes amidst allegations of overcharging California’s Medi-Cal program and the loss of approximately 900,000 Medicaid clients, as reported by Centene’s CEO, Sarah London.

The layoffs have raised questions about the company’s financial stability and the effectiveness of its leadership. Many are left wondering how a company with a reported net income of $1.06 billion in Q2 could resort to such drastic measures. The decision to cut jobs has led to speculation about potential mismanagement at the executive level and its impact on the company’s workforce."

So this article is from June 1, 2024 - question is how many of those 2000 employees have been laid off already? And who is to say that it isn't just lip service to the media to try to save themselves from looking like the complete asssoles they are (like end of last years layoffs) and the number is higher then 2,000 in actuality? I wouldn't trust Centene to be truthful or transparent to save their lives.

This article talks about the layoffs that happened last year, but thanks. It's speculation about 2024 so really nothing new. We won't know until it's one of us. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Why are we trying to take a victory lap on the "love my job" people?! If they love their job, great.

I don't (and have been looking).

What layoffs? I am worried. I am in the Compliance department for a local plan. My Director had us complete a competencies survey. We were told that we would be moving to SS beginning in 2025. But I am beginning to think they will be starting to weed out the herd soon.
