Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

National General

I am employed with Nat Gen as you know the sale will be going through in Jan. Can someone explain the process? Does processes and changes happen quickly after a sale or can I expect to have my job to the end of 2021?

NGIC will be the “safer” ones - Encompass & Allstate are the ones going to be “transforming.” Let’s face it - this is a channel play for independent agency distribution. Allstate hasn’t been able to do it. NGIC has the experience of integrating companies into them and in growing the ind agt channel. They moved from $1 bill to $6 bill in WP in ten years. Has Allstate? Nope. Allstate had shrunk the business. So Encompass & Allstate - if you’re on the ind agt side you will need to fit INTO the NGIC new world order

It seems as though some of you have completely overlooked that TW made it clear in a meeting and on a slide presentation last year that Allstate IA and Encompass will be absorbed into National General and NOT the other way around. National General leadership NOT Allstate IA or Encompass will lead the merge of the three companies. National General has the better technology. National General policy volume of business is greater than Allstate IA and Encompass. National General leadership is more experienced in merging companies over Allstate IA and Encompass. So before some of you start giving out 60 day notices to Encompass and National General employees only, ALL THREE company employees, including you too Allstate IA, be prepared for the worst and pray for the best. Allstate IA you feel like you’re untouchable, but do not fool yourself. EVERYBODY is NOT going to be needed from all three companies.

@tql+18FmIFYi I don't know what you do at Progressive but I have had several co-workers leave Allstate and go there, only to find out the grass is only greener on the side until you get there. There isn't a single one that is happy over there and sure if they had stayed at Allstate they would probably be out of a job, but they would have severance. The 2 that are managers are getting constant pressure, one is now taking classes to do a career change, another non-management person quit to be a stay at home parent. I am glad your little place at Progressive is good, because that isn't the norm.

If you are at Nat Gen start looking for your next job, not trying to be mean it just is going to be that way, they will keep you guys around for the transition and then start cutting and cutting even more. This isn't just an Allstate thing it is a corporate thing, look at Sprint buying Radio Shack, and T-Mobile buying Sprint, in both those cases people were kept on for the transition and they cut.

Amazing - some of y’all wouldn’t be successful at Walmart! Quit your b–chin! Maybe they got rid of the right people if this is how you conduct yourselves! Just throwing up all over crying about your assessments and root cause problem solving. If you didn’t like it you should have moved on before they put a boot to yer butt!

Prayers to all you NatGen folks. You are about to embark on a very bumpy, sad, and depressing journey.

First stop will be "Continuous Improvement" in which you will be forced to make up and solve problems that don't really exist just to say you did. That will be a few hours a week wasted which will keep you from meeting already unattainable goals and deadlines which is by design. 300 problem solving steps to get to a simple solution for said fabricated problems.

Next will be your entry into "Transformative Growth" where ill planned layoffs are on the menu with the extra work dumped on the poor sots left behind in this wasteland. Also as a part of this will be this sinking ship buying competitors such as yourselves to increase market share via purchase instead of building new ideas and methods to improve their product. The brainchild of Mr. Glenn Shapiro who almost single handedly ruined Liberty Mutual in the same way.

Your day to day functions under the Allstate umbrella will bring about severe micromanagement, zero tolerance time management to the second, underqualified leaders that know nothing and are simply there as babysitters, and processes that have no earthly logic or reasoning behind them. In addition constant changes that can only be deemed as painfully ignorant with no thought or direction will frustrate you constantly almost to the point of tears.

You are all in for a world of professional and career pain that you never thought imagined. You will think you have fallen into the 5th reign of Hell.

All this coming from a tenured senior leader on the customer service side.

Encompass & Allstate Independent channels will roll into NatGen, not the other way around. If you look at the slide deck in the announcement under Investor site it outlines this plainly. Current NatGen leadership is at the helm of the transition - more impact and adjustments will come with Encompass / AIA employees coming into a new organizational silo that will be operating as free standing org under Allstate family. Yes there are already strategic mapping to move the integration fairly swiftly - so not the slow lumbering rollout many have anticipated. Different team rolling this out that the Northbrook folks.
And - it’s a completely appropriate question for this thread - some people just get butthurt smh

Way to hijack a thread. Not nice. This thread is titled "National General" by the OP. Start a threat for your question and considering claims folks think they own things around here I am sure you will get a slew of answers and information.

Anyone have any insight or hear rumors as to whether or not more layoffs are in store for claims in Allstate??

Word out there is encompass will likely be impacted sooner and directly over incoming NatGen people. Rumors of elimination of a lot of encompass areas in 1st or 2nd quarter. Down the road would expect some impacts to NatGen areas. Although they may do the disaster they just did with the lumping everyone into a ball, making them take third party assessment with puzzels to determine your worth as a cover of fairness to get rid of higher paid, high seniority employees. Who knows with this company.

Regardless coming under to Allstate umbrella will lead you into a world of confusion, illogical process and methods, weak leadership, and career uncertainty. Required goals and metrics that are impossible to meet by design. Employees are set up for failure to prevent having to give merit raises and performance bonuses unless of course your last name is Wilson, Shapiro, or Brandt. The Allstate organization is current being led by incompetent dishonest human garbage and slime from the to all the way down. Liars, thieves, pathetic yes men and women, and arrogant nimrods who think they know everything and in reality know nothing. A world of "Transformative Growth" and "Continuous Improvement" that is anything but. A world of low morale, defeated and depressed employees, and two faced degenerate leaders all out for their own necks.

I worked for Allstate from late July 2016 to Dec 2020. In those few years, Allstate often downsized–sometimes too much because the company would wind up being understaffed in certain departments.

I don't know your exact situation because you're from Nat Gen, but if everything is being handled by Allstate people, then you can likely expect more downsizing. Allstate just recently had a huge downsizing event that required employees to take some pointless assessment along with some puzzles to assess our potential at the company. Many people were unhappy with the way the company handled it.

I am now happily employed by Progressive, and this company does not seem like it treats its employees like c-ap. I can't tell you to leave because I don't know your situation, but just know that if your company is under the Allstate umbrella, there's a chance you may have to face a lot of dumb nonsensical changes. Best of luck to you.

"Find a trustworthy leader who has respect for his coworkers and you may get some inside info."

Needle in a haystack. Leadership in this company walks around with its tail between its legs and directs you to the "Chat" room.

They lead from behind.

Agree! Changes will be fast with little honest information. Sounds like Encompass will be absorbed into National General.

I am on the Encompass side. We have been told that sale is final on January 4. We have also been advised that change will happen faster than slower. I would expect lots of changes during the first quarter.

Certain leadership positions know what's coming for our newly added coworkers. I wish you the best. There was a time with the good hands company when they were more transparent. Recent trends tell us the current knee jerk decisions in process are all over the map. Find a trustworthy leader who has respect for his coworkers and you may get some inside info. Good Luck.

They keep telling us our department is safe but based on what I've read that is the standard lie so no one panicks and jumps ship right away.
