Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Shifting dynamic.

Companies are now veering away from the preferred hiring of ivy league college graduates mainly due to the risk that if hired, they’d protest at the drop of a hat over any perceived injustice. For the past 4 years its become en vogue to spin up a protest, sit in, camp in, whatever you want to call it, at least once per year or more. This last go around over the Israeli\Palestine conflict is pushing the corporate world to turn away from preferring ivy league graduates. Its become not worth the risk.

Along with the above, the same is said about DEI hiring. Assessments show that companies that have a high DEI score, also have an increased risk spanning from lower productivity, higher degree of mistakes and outages. Assumed that more time needed to grow into the role, allowances were made. After a few years, the numbers were either the same or worse. Now, companies still tow the DEI line but its no longer the “hire exclusively DEI candidates”. Hire some but not as wholeheartedly as before.

Suddenly as the students start protesting a live televised and taxpayer funded genocide (in the 21st century fer chrissakes), smearing starts, obviously paid for goons start mu---rous "counter" protests which miraculously result in arrests of the attacked, not the attackers. Just a few years ago these same students were darlings when they were protesting against the orange man.

Can't believe the depths to which humanity will sink for a damn paycheck.

No one is blaming Citi's troubles on DEI employees. Citi's stock price would have been lousy regardless of if DEI ever existed.
The point is DEI does nothing positive for a company. It checks a woke box and nothing more.

@1tjv+1siHtLRx, you are absolutely right. There is no process in hiring DEI employees. A MD or D can hire any of his family friend to this position. These false DEI employee just come and sit and reduce the opportunities of other African-American or Native american applicants. This kind of hiring is also expanding to favoritism inside projects like quick promotion of DEI employees(false DEI) due to favoritism.
Instead of Direct hiring/deployment, Why not they can have some proper training classes for DEI employees and filter out candidates before deploying into projects ?
This will ensure Citi is adhering to DEI standards as well as prevent fraud.

Citi is truly racist. You can’t tell me that there are absolutely no qualified African American females that qualify to be CEO. How many Israeli, Palestinian or Pakistani employees are at Citi now? You do know that there are other races out there than you can hire other than Indians from India, right? What about American Indians? What’s being done to bring them on board?

Really you’re going to blame everything on DEI employees? Sure there may be some lazy coasters just as there are many non-DEI such in all the management layers! Working 3-4 hours a week! And making up BS zoom calls. But sure, “its all the lazy DEI employees.” What do you expect from an organization with no direction, stagnant, with convoluted and obscure processes, that hires all these DEI employees at the entry level for optics with poor training and many times with absurd demands. They’re making mistakes? They’re cutting corners? They’re a risk? Well what do you expect with less and less employees doing the work and working with outdated ways of doing things. But you still got the manager of the manager of the manager of who brings nothing to the table, BS their entire existence in the organization - but hey it’s all the lazy DEI employees fault.

@pkz+1siHtLRx, False/Fake DEI is also an important reason in addition to other reason specified by you. Giving opportunities and promotions to False DEI candidates with favoritism really impact potential candidates who can shine in that role. Lots of people are demotivated and don't work. A real DEI candidate is always welcomed and to be treated with respect. I have seen lots of real DEI candidates are shown the way out and favoritism survives.

@uap+1siHtLRx, its not C14 or C13 who are idle. Even some top MD's and D's are idle. They don't get proper recognition / promotion at work and slowly their motivation factors are brought down. When is the last time you got a good bonus at Citi. I have seen some really excellent & talented C14's who where shown exit for mere political reasons.

Citi name is tarnished in finance industry and HR's are finding hard to fill open positions in US. H1B, False DEI are their only way to fill with less cost.

For years, the real DEI has been cronyism, the friends of a friend. As an earlier comment indicated, coasting on the friend network.

If we are looking at people, there are too many C14s who are weak - in terms of technical knowledge. Instead of directing C12s and C13s on a problem at hand, the C12s and C13s have to guide them.. smh… cronyism at work

Here we go again. Citi’s problems are DEI related. Let’s be honest, Citi’s problems are revenue, product, and technology related. Years of suboptimal decisions by those in the centers of power.

Citi needs to do more to hire more Isreali and Palestinian people including in management position. DEI encompasses more than just African American’s, Indian and women. What about more native American Indians?

One challenge with DEI hiring is only actively recruiting from Historically Black Colleges and working with India based placement agencies. Their training may be lacking and their nets are too narrow. That said, let's stop pretending that citi doesn't have a sh-t ton of unqualified non-DEI employees coasting along the friendship network.

The only diversity I have seen at Citi is what part of India are you from. Way to many in the global directory. Very few African Americans in higher roles.

But what will all those whose entire being centers around identity politics? Where will they go to rant and snivel? Who will pity and console them?

For Citi, DEI was a big race for the optics of it all. All the HR emails for the past few years has been nothing but celebrating and promoting DEI hirings.

Its really unfair to the new hires to place people in positions they are not qualified for.

I don’t blame DEI. But misuse of DEI is more prevalent.
