30% pay increase from WFH to RTO

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/27/remote-workers-get-up-to-30percent-pay-increase-for-switching-to-in-office-jobs-says-new-research.html

Not for us though! All we get is 2 hours commute and $ 5k expenses for commuting to dangerous downtown office with dr-g addicts roaming the streets .

From article

Getting people back to the office comes with a steep price tag — and those willing to swap their remote job for working in an office full-time could see the biggest change in their paychecks.

Salaries for fully in-office roles are climbing in the United States. Companies are offering an average $82,037 for in-person roles, a nearly 40% jump from what these roles paid in 2023 ($59,085), according to ZipRecruiter data provided to CNBC Make It.

Wages for remote and hybrid jobs haven’t grown nearly as much. As of March 2024, hybrid roles pay $59,992 on average, in 2023, that number was $54,034, ZipRecruiter reports. Remote jobs now pay $75,327, but in 2023, they paid an average $69,107. ZipRecruiter’s research is based on job listings from its platform and survey responses from more than 1,500 U.S. adults who started new jobs in 2023

I wonder if they made us sign something that state Bank can require us to RTO at any time because it certainly not what I signed up for. I am sure most of us hired as remote certainly would have asked for me before accepting offer if they knew they would have to commute 3 days a week.

Has anyone tried to Sue at other places?

Can it be a breached of agreement because you were hired way before covid as remote? You took the offer and benefits because it is remote. Now they are forcing RTO with no increase in pay. I thought HR reps are there to balance the table. Stupid HR.

Reading the RTO FAQs is like talking to a robot.

I was hired as remote. If I knew I would be hybrid, I would have asked for more money before I accepted job offer 2 years ago. To compensate For cost of commute, $$ and time.

I took less money because I figure not commuting was worth $10k a year due to savings on car and 2 hours of commute pER day that would be unpaid if I was hybrid

In response to this post:

Because many of us were hired as remote employees. Previously I spent between $800-1,000 commuting, which also took 3-4 hours round trip. I accepted a lower base pay when I took this job specifically because I could save the money I used to have to spend on commuting. Many people took that into account when accepting their benefits package. Forcing RTO all of a sudden means an instant reduction in pay and a change of the hiring terms.

Coming from a team that has been in office through Covid, driving into the office in a dangerous area every day, and getting nothing extra for doing so, except for a few weeks in the beginning, why should those who RTO get additional pay to do so? For the last several years, you saved money by WFH. I don't think anyone who returns to office is deserving of more pay. If you were doing it before Covid and it was fine, why is it not fine now?

My manager was honest with me and said bonus is usually not funded and raises aren’t so great. Boy, was he truthful.

The manager giving you the poor raises also gets a poor raise. They know that the raises are an embarrassment and will say this if they are honest. If your manager sells you on how great your raise is, they are part of the useless manager class.

We get layoffs every other month like clockwork. These cheap ba----ds never even give us a decent raise. They throw us 1-3% like we are supposed to drop everything and kiss their ar-e. Do the bare minimum because they don’t deserve anything more and definitely do not RTO.
