Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The failure of AT&T will cost lots of jobs

Today in the news, AT&T to sell DirecTv's international markets, I do recall the thousands of American jobs lost, when Cingular wireless was sold years back, typically they takeover successful companies And do what they do best.

they added "that there is no guarantee that AT&T will be successful in selling the business, which includes satellite and cable television services in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and several other countries, the people

AT&T is not interested in selling its pay TV business in Mexico, since it has been investing in wireless services in the country, the sources said. It acquired these TV operations as part of its $49 billion acquisition of DirecTV in 2015.

AT&T has been reviewing its portfolio to find ways to help pay down its debt load, which will increase to about $180 million once its acquisition of Time Warner closes.

Ridiculous management spin about the company does not change the fact that it is just a shell of a business, top heavy with high paid executives and widely hated by both consumers and employees. Upper management ultimately does not care, they will get their golden parachutes but on the way out they will get taxpayer money to prop up their empty shell because it will be too stupid and greedy to succeed, but too big to fail.

Corporate welfare will save the day.

The company and senior management will be okay, no doubt, but people commenting on this site won't be so lucky

T isn't going to fail. They have been around for 100 years, and will be around for another 100 more. The merger with TW will only make them stronger, you can take that to the bank.

the emphasis should be is on merger review, both pre-merger and post merger. Is pretty obvious that AT&T did not accomplished the widely publicized DireTV merger synergies,no senior executive is unemployed today as a result of that, quite the opposite they get rewarded with huge bonuses at expense of regular workers though massive layoffs, The real emphasis in considering mergers has to move from price advantages benefitting consumers to longer term considerations including innovation, workers’ wages and future growth.

istagnant wages, cheap labor, outsourcing and offshoring, reigns at this conglomerate today and we have to thank our government for that!!
