Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Any truth to 8/22?

One really needs the nerves of steel to push through all the tension and anxiety. After each round where I’m spared I’m so exhausted that I don’t even feel good about keeping a job. I just feel the need to sleep for three days. And as soon as one gets back into the routine and relaxes for 5 minutes, the new round of worry starts.

Carelon Member services was hit hard. 4 out of the 9 managers, 2 operations experts, and a clerk their last day is 9/6. So sad we had employees crying for our colleagues. so many people need their jobs right now and this is very sad. I wish everybody the best! Use your expertise and talents to get better jobs.

Is the 100 let go in Nashville true? What departments? I was on PTO and anxious over what I am returning to.

Due to the already large turn over the last 6-8 months because of poor executive leadership and toxic culture , we are already under resourced.

This is the first I heard of 100 in Nashville?? Can someone confirm that? We have had them before but every one is so hush and afraid to talk you really don't know who is still here and who isn't without constantly checking status of people on Teams

I agree with you, but want to add that I've seen a lot of people in my time get sc--wed on AIP even when let go in December through February. I've never seen it paid higher than 50% and I have seen even more not get any at all.

Honestly wouldn’t be shocked if more of this occurs 8/22. Reason being is that if they wait any longer then 30 days from that date will go into October. Anything that goes into Q4 will mean that you qualify for AIP next March.

They're avoiding WARN notices and publicity. I can virtually guarantee that a good number of people let go this week were on the September list, and a good number of people who didn't get let go this week will be on the next round, whether that's 8/22 or the first quarter.

Why can't they just rip the band aid once and for all? It's a pain to have to go through this every month...

I've been with the company >20 years, and honestly the only way to cope is to keep your head down and just do your work. You cannot get wrapped up in the RIF rumor mill or RIF news too much, it will drive you to depression.
So what do I do to survive? First off I maximize every single benefit they offer - 401k ✔️ company stock program ✔️ Education reimbursement ✔️ health club reimbursement ✔️ just to name the biggest ones. You need to Use Them, for Everything You Can Get.... just as surely they use you. Get another degree, on them! Goodness knows I have :) I've collected them like matchbox cars over the last >20 years. Do I think i'll make it to retirement age without being RIF'd? History tells me no. I've seen dozens of co-workers nearing retirement Rif'd off like ducks in a barrel, and I can count on two hands the ones who made it to retirement unassisted. And unless you are paid overtime, stop working past your 40 hours. Take your lunch hour every day, do not donate that time back to them, they will never appreciate it- nor recognize you for it.
It will take a new CEO to change our culture to a more positive one. I've seen 4 now, I might be able to wait out Gail, but I've come to accept that our culture is gone, it left with the useless name change (again). I know we'll be Anthem again, its just a matter of time like being Wellpoint only lasted so long.

There are always layoffs happening, it's just bigger in Q4, but there's also Q1s. and I completely agree that it creates a toxic work environment. Has anyone considered looking into the mental health service utilization among our staff? The constant instability is enough to drive anyone into a depression. It's like watching a train wreck—perplexing, inhumane, and completely random. I doubt many people at the company feel safe when layoffs are announced, except for those making the final decisions.

It seems like the board and external pressures are driving this relentless push for cuts. Reductions so far haven’t satisfied them, so the layoffs continue. It must be easy to sit in a secure position and treat thousands of people like chess pieces. We’re moving into an environment where employees are just placed wherever needed, with little regard for matching skillsets. It’s like throwing a person into the worst possible situation and then telling everyone to 'enjoy their time' and 'act like family.'

I used to be so proud to work here. I remember when I got the job, how it felt like I was joining a caring, amazing company. But now, it's not the same. The focus on stock prices and external approval has come at the cost of jobs. We keep cutting plans and health benefits, and then wonder why we’re losing bids. The answer is simple: less service means worse service. You can’t treat the people who serve our members poorly and expect positive outcomes. We don’t need expensive consultants to tell us that.

No idea why people are downvoting you, because this is absolutely true. There are rifs nearly monthly, but they don't get attention unless they're more widespread. I know of a dozen in the past couple of years even with low visibility into the overall enterprise that never hit this site, much less reddit or media.

No knowledge of 8/22 but there are more in Q4, as always. If you’re seeking comfort that your job is secure you should probably find another job, externally 😞 There are ALWAYS rifs here and most are on smaller scale so no widespread visibility unless you/your team is impacted (there have been rifs since Jan). Constant reorgs is the Elevance culture under Gail’s leadership. 👎

There is a potential of an additional layoff. I don’t know the date which will be dependent on whether after this round of rifs as well as closure of open FTEs , terminations etc, sr leadership hasn’t met its target %. I’ve heard anywhere from 10-12%.

I hope someone in the know answers. All these months of layoffs we've had since September last year, it's always been layoffs once a month. That was this week for this month. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything. Maybe the layoffs are so large they had to split them? Only one person mentioned 8/22 and everyone ran with it. Maybe someone in a know will chime in. 8/8 was rumored since June.

I'm not convinced the posts about CBSD being today are true. There would be a lot more buzz than a few posts about mtg invites going out today or someone saying "yes". I'm confident CBSD will be impacted. So that would mean a different week for CBSD....
