Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What happened to all the juicy layoffs rumors?

So little chatter on the subject lately...

@oqh, there are some in SR who realize Chevron’s internal talent management program (that is, high pots for managerial positions) has been a disaster, and that to keep the company afloat, they need to hire managers from other companies.

A truth teller can lead those who believe lies. A lie teller can lead those who believe truths. A good liar can be the best leader of truth seekers. A good truth teller can be the worst leader of lie seekers. A good leader is never the above, only the below. But below lies only the truth. Above floats only the lies. A bad follower can be led by only one who is neither.

A good leader is hardly tells the truth, may not lie but will not tell the truth, the truth is always inconvenient and demoralizingfor the whole team to be led, you led with art and promises that may never bear fruits.

When a “supervisor” tells you things like, “you would make a great leader”, or any items that sound positive, they are just utilizing phrases from “the manual” on how to keep the serfs happy. When you ask a question that would take a quick answer but they write a couple paragraphs that sound good but actually says “No” that is how they continually lie. Their truth is only for those in the group…., Hi Pots., etc. You can play that game if you want but at least save some time and tell them you “are all in”! Later peeps.

My supervisor keeps telling me I would make a great leader but I keep getting past over every time a position comes up. If I don't get promoted soon, I'm out.

@1qps+1h8BO70E …Maybe learning the difference between a “roll” and a “role” would be a place to start …

I would have to think there are layoffs in the works somewhere in the company or at least talks of layoffs. There seems to be a reorg of some kind every year or two. The level of change is extreme here now days. No wonder morale is in the toilet.

Maybe you re not getting a leadership role because you are not a leader???

Depressing that none of us can get a leadership roll yet Chevron is offering huge signing bonus for marginal external hires.

I have friends at Shell and Exxon who have been contacted by headhunters looking to fill supervisor and middle management jobs at Chevron. Seems quite aggressive offers being made to fill these positions.

Right now the problem is lack of people and many are leaving for other opportunities. Layoffs will be here next year once the recession happens.
