Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Lack of respect!

TIAA CEO Duckett: What a coward!

In lieu of the recent announcement that TIAA will be closing down its Denver Operations Center; as long time Denver employees we felt the need to express our feelings in regards to the blatant lack of leadership and respect shown by current CEO Thasunda Duckett.

We understand that c-suite business leaders of her stature need to make difficult decisions on a daily basis. We also understand that these decisions can at times be extremely unpopular with employees; particularly when it comes to cost savings measures - which is what this move is all about - don’t be fooled by any other rationale provided or scripted.

Again, as unfortunate as it is for us in Denver we understand business decisions of this magnitude . However, what we can’t understand is the personal lack of leadership and respect by “Duckett” to not deliver the message herself. Whether it be in person; telephone; video; even pre-recorded video! At least that would have shown a level of leadership and compassion that the Denver employee base so richly deserves. We wonder what conflict she had on her schedule to prevent this? Was it vacation at Oprah’s? Or maybe she was galavanting across the globe in Paris for the Olympics? Either way, we deserved more! She should (but won’t) feel ashamed!

Our prior CEO Roger Ferguson Jr. may have made the very same business decision. However, the stark contrast between Mr. Ferguson and “Duckett” would have been based on the “How?” the message was delivered. Aren’t we big on the “How?” here at TIAA? Mr. Ferguson would have delivered the message himself and not hid behind a Chief People Officer; and what exactly is a Chief People Officer?

Here in Denver we have had a strong group of effective leaders at various levels over the years! Edward Van Dolsen, Gary Mauger, Gerard Love, just to name a few. These leaders not only had a superior level of IQ; they mastered the skill of EQ as well! “Duckett” could stand to learn a thing or two from any of them!

I had to run from tiaa when Duckett the social media attention seeker and her chase cronies came in board. What a joke. As a female I was underwhelmed by her career compared to our previous CEO however decided to see if she brought something different to make up. Nope! She was never at important meetings, when clients were hack she was busy with nfl games and basketball games hungry for attention. I was hoping Kamala would win election so she can go ride her coattails. This woman is all about herself trying to meet black celebrities. She has no clue what it is to be a true leader. And we are so tired of her promoting her father for financial gain.

Remember our CEO is addicted to social media. Therefore, I would ignore the troll.

The troll is likely T or some firm she hired trying to discredit the site. This is a playbook straight out of political consulting circles.

You would think our CEO would have more pressing things to work on outside of trolling on these boards.

Sad.

@1fqn+1tTqFbfo wow. You are a disgusting and pathetic excuse of a human being that evidently has no heart for other people. You must be new to tiaa so here is the breakdown…

In this company that is being destroyed from above that eventually will enter every nook and cranny within…
do you really and truly think you’re gonna be employed much longer. Heck you may be fired (without pay for breaking values/conduct policies) before the Denver or Jacksonville associates receive their relocation benefits or severance packages.

Good luck surviving here buddy. Oh and I see that you liked your own post since no one else would agree with you even anonymously.

The comments from the Denver crew on this thread prove shutting down the office was the right thing to do. This is appaling. Enjoy unemployment.

@1qmp+1tTqFbfo:
Having a law on the books that doesn’t let a woman get an abortion if she is ra--d isn’t a difference of opinion it’s a failing of morality.

That is the definition of a point of view. The inflexibility of your post proves my point. Some would argue the exact Opposite on morality.
We’re not going to solve that here but we can learn that hearing others is a way forward…not shutting down with a “I am right and everyone who disagrees is an id--t, immoral, backwards imbecile”.
This is what divides us.
I don’t disagree with legitimate reasons not to move and I agree this situation could have been handled much better but it is where we are. Attacking one another does not change that.

Different points of view are who su-ks at football more or how money should be spent to support different projects in a state. Having a law on the books that doesn’t let a woman get an abortion if she is ra--d isn’t a difference of opinion it’s a failing of morality.

The majority of people won’t move to Texas, but it’s not because people love Denver that is a straw man. Most of the people would love nothing more than to not go into Denver for work. The other posters comments are obviously the same mentality as the EC if they think a good chuck of people will move. The lifestyle in Colorado is completely different from Texas, the weather is different, your mortgage rate will cause your house payment to double, and you don’t know if you’ll get fired in a year.

If you can’t understand why the majority of people don’t want anything to do with a move to Texas then I don’t know what to tell you.

@1scr+1tTqFbfo gonna go out on a limb here and say that “backwards” comment was probably more for the fact that our company is often rewarded for being an ally and a champion for equal rights for women, all races and backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with disabilities, parents, retirement equality, and other forms of social justice and equality.

Texas and so many other states are the opposite and are literally taking away these rights of people and going “back” in time to when it was acceptable to be a racist, or a misogynist, or bullying those who are different, or child abuse … the list goes on.

To a certain extent, I agree with that other comment - T is no better than the leaders of the state being MIA when her people in Denver Broomfield and Jacksonville needed her the most. But she’d rather party and not have the decency to send even a recorded video for them let alone say anything all week so far.

Pathetic. Careless. Heartless. Disrespectful. Selfish. and countless other words to describe someone who is the antithesis of what a real leader is and how they treat people.

She is backwards. She is sending TIAA backwards. And because of it we are all going to suffer the consequences of her actions.

I’ll tell you what a “Chief People Officer” is! It’s just another excessively overpaid executive role; which in the grand scheme of things does NOTHING! Lots of that s—-going on at TIAA has been for years!!!!! In the best companies the employees drive the culture not a CPO. S—- is ridic!

It appears our illustrious leader, believes such appearances to be beneath her. While she appends the lives of hundreds of employees, she can’t be bothered to address their concerns or make an a statement. This will be her legacy; the lack of compassionate leadership, millions spent in settlements, frivolous spending, and self-promotion. A company with a storied reputation has been tarnished forever. This is her legacy.

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”

@mcp+1tTqFbfo Texas is not “backwards” because the general population disagrees with your point of view just like we do not consider Colorado “backwards” because the general population disagrees with ours. We have to step back from this name calling and understand there is room for differing points of view and a middle ground to be had.
