So my manager, an L3, said last week that L3s and L4s are having to a complete self assessments. She's concerned and rightly so that this is in preparation for layoffs and increase in L3/L4 spans. We went through this same exercise a few years ago where all managers had to have at least 9 direct reports. Over the last few years' reorgs I think many now have less than 9 so this kind of is not unexpected.

They should be. All an l3 is take what I send them. Ask me questions band then send it to the l4
The real question is what does stankey do for his 23 million
The two fones video is the stupidest thing ever
Not to mention who the f is paying for his custom sneakers
The assessment is being delivered through a leading talent development firm. We were told it wouldn’t be used for any lay off decisions (someone asked on the call) so this is fake news.
Classic Stink
seriously ... i just don't understand how stankey and his sidekick randall the consultant stick around. my only guess is the board knows no other person wants to be ceo of this company with all the debt here cause it's basically hopeless.
CEO Assessment: I bought DTV and Time Warner, ran up over $180 Billion in debt. Sold DTV and Time Warner for a loss and walked away with $200 million and a $1 million consulting fee.
I was rated exceeds expectations by the Board of Directors!!
Good! Most of them are completely clueless anyway.
Definitely a span of control focus. Some D’s don’t have direct any reports.
The problem is that self-assessments have nothing to do with your current responsibilities. You could be the best skilled person in the company and on an assignment that uses nothing of it and that org can surplus you.
Unless they want to start yanking people into other organizations based on their skill set, these self-assessments are kind of yet another worthless exercise.
I am an L2. Months ago, we were required to complete a self assessment as well. Our director told us that this had nothing to do with layoffs, as they would not use the data in making layoff decisions. I don't know if I believe what I was told or not. I guess it is one of those things... I did it and more or less forgot about it.
A lot of L2s also need to complete self assessments to identify their scope of work and responsibilities. This is a big opportunity to balance/right size workloads.
Retail ARSM and DOS are useless positions that can be let go as well.
We need to flatten the company. I would expect this exercise to continue until the company gets it right.
I haven’t had a fourth line in years.
