Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Tuesday 09/05 prediction - first day of RTO will be a hot mess

Let's just start with the parking garage snarls, awful traffic on the surrounding roads (especially SA office), incomplete desk configurations, overflowing toilets, stolen desk chairs, awkward silences and disgruntled looks, loud zoom meetings to other team members not there, a possible Covid superspreader event, dragon breath and finally people staring at their devices, praying for quitting time. All this just to make the Peacock's Pe---r twitch.

Lol did you really take the time to fake a bunch of negative reactions on the last post calling you out? I doubt anyone thumbed it down but you.

Stardate: 09/05/2024. Followup report. Day 1 of forced RTO did turn out to be somewhat of a hot mess, at the gates, extra traffic on the roads, a few carpet bombed restrooms, upcharges in the cafes and so on. Culture!

What is the point of this post? Uselessly condescending to say “you should have known”. So what, it’s our fault? Should we have known they would reduce the pension too?

Don’t criticize unless you have an actual point to make, it makes you just look like a dooshnozzle.

not only is this a blatant lie for pre-covid folks, what about those of us who were hired during COVID with the promise of hybrid work? they were very clear that it was permanent, and then they pulled the rug out. USAA is not the only one who did this, it was a widespread lie that CEOs and other leaders fed the hiring managers because the job market was so tight. Now our boss and boss's boss are being forced to pretend like they never committed to that because they have no choice but to toe the party line (or they can try to resist, but at this point they would hurt the directs because of the big-brother badge tracking at the C-suite level and threats to not pay bonuses (or worse).

Now you want to make some kind of argument about "tough sh--t, you don't have a contract and you work at-will", then at least you're being honest about screwing us over. A REAL plan would have been to make WFH conditional on performance, being an employee in good standing. It's not like remote employees are even a new thing, the banks are just being babies because they're about to get screwed on commercial real estate, so they're trying to set the example and ki-l WFH.

@1pqb+1ooETw1z Are you saying, the same wi-fi that we use to sign on to the work laptops and personal devices are being tracked?

Just saying things become a self fulfilling prophecy. If you go in with a super negative mindset that will be your reality. I don’t like it here either which is why I’m actively interviewing now. The best way for Wayne and Co to get the message is to leave. They obviously don’t care about any of us or what we think.

How many people on this thread have been given notice of or actually been involved in the USAA layoffs that are taking place?

Whoever commented “USAA was always in office pre-Covid” no… that is NOT true. Work At Home/Remote was the second largest group besides SAT. Many people applied at USAA because they knew of how they embraced remote work. And everyone who worked at home WAS told it was permanent… and surprise surprise some of us have now had the rug pulled out from under us.

Word of advice…don’t connect to the Eagle wi-Fi on your phone and visit this site. Stay on your cellular. Otherwise, guess who’ll be getting a report on who comes on here? They’re going to be watching everything you do.

Just being realistic here… USAA was fully in office pre-Covid and they never once said or alluded to being 100% remote forever, especially when they have one of the largest campuses in the world. It’s not really a surprise they’d force everyone to go back, in fact, I’m surprised they waited this long.

I think RTO will work itself out. COVID is still circulating. Everyone will go back, get sick, be sent home. Kids will bring it home, parents will bring it into the office. Loopty loop.

Chill out everyone. Those of us forced to be back earlier, myself included, should be less smug about other folks being dragged back. Remember, they should have kept their commitments, resist the urge for schaudenfreude on those who had a greater lag time with the betrayal.

Suggestions I’ve seen:

Wear black
Call out on 9/5

Any other thoughts?

Why are you on a site called Layoff.com complaining that you must show up onsite a few days a week for the job you currently have? You have full income and benefits, but you are on this site complaining about company requirements. WOW!!! Is this your first job?

OP here. Not grouchy at all - if you can't read that some of that was satire, then go get some help. But I'm guessing that some of you out here are ok with the RTO gaslighting, short staffing, stealth layoffs and are of the limp "be thankful you have a job" mentality. Bet your ancestors said the same things to the kids working in the coal mines, "Stop being such a grouch, be more appreciative that you don't have a chronic cough. Now go get your payday nickel and shut up!" Granted we are not in that dire of a situation, but people like you allow incapable leaders like Peacock to flourish and stay around longer than they should. And that's lame.

Calling the HD will now ring in India and it will take them upward of 45 minutes to change your password. You'll also want to note that L2 was part of layoffs so that no longer exists. Good luck folks

Many of us have been back for a while. It is what you make out of it. I’m not thrilled to have to go in but if you are negative and grumpy that’s what the experience will be for you.

Suggestions:
Leave early to ensure you arrive on time
Report any desk issues you may have
I never saw an issue with the toilets but if there is then report the problem
Wear your headphones during zoom meetings
If you don't have headphones, then ask for one as they have them handy onsite
Offer breath mint or gum
Don't worry about what others do
Feel blessed that you still have a job to show up to, as a lot of us have been laid off!
