They let me go the day after the email went out. I was at the top of my team for performance. Managers/directors had to sign NDAs not to say what the reason was for picking me. Thanks Kate for spending millions on Brene's book just so you could ruin my families life right before the holidays. I was loyal and didn't leave for other jobs and I regret this. Pay is also so much higher outside of Lumen. Kate lies and is driving that company into the ground regardless if she bought stock or not. I wish Lumen the worst going forward. Thank you-

I didn’t get 60 days warn notice. Is that legal?

I heard the Warn Notice does not apply. Is that true? HR says this is not a mass layoff or a plant closure. Has anyone else heard otherwise?

Sh—t I wish a huge media or news would cover this and show everyone what spineless cowards the ceo and executives they are. Expose them on company paid events, parties, that they benefit from that are non essential. Expose them for stealing jobs from hard working family people, single parents, and everyone. Maybe if the dirt was most published to the world showing what kind of people they truly are maybe companies and ours would think twice. If not for anything else than to maintain integrity and living up to what they’ve said. No one in a position of power has these qualities as they make promises which they know our nothing but lies not giving a sh—t about who they hurt a long the way. It’s time people are held accountable and the media, social media needs to start exposing these people. They are no better than those in jail. They just wear suits

Really!!!!!!!!!!!!Send that email, stress everyone, then next day say NOTHING!!!!! It is obvious they can care less about all those who make them their money. No loyalty to so many who have been loyal giving up other opportunities over the years. For what???? Well we all can see and answer that. To be left in the dark. Not knowing how or if we will be able to financially care for our families our kids let a lone do it with the holidays. How many will have to tell kids sorry Santa had no money this year while the executives and CEOs enjoy theirs and lavish holiday parties not caring how they took food and shelter away from people who made their life style possible. So nice not to send any other information and leaving all of us to wait like sitting ducks!!!!!!!!! Well nothing last forever. I’d hate to be them on judgement day. Thank you for absolutely nothing.

90 day lay off period for CWA legacy qwest, so unless something gets announced shortly, you're good until end of January. Usually a VSPP is offered before they make it involuntary. There has always been too many managers, supervisors, erroneous job titles...etc.

One of the things that really bothers me (among many), is that the company pays Brene Brown. Lumen pays her for all of the appearances she makes, her workshops leadership went to, the thousands of books sent out or downloaded...that's A LOT of money. How the eff can Lumen afford this cr-p?!

The only poor performers in that company are Managers and the Executives! Please! Poor performers based on stupid metrics that mean nothing to the customers! Touché!

I heard most of the people getting laid off are poor performers and dead weight around the company, which there is a bunch off

Why send out the email 5 seconds before everyone leaves to go trick-or-treating with their kids? Talk about stress. I thought the earnings call wasn't until Thursday (if that was a driver) and now everyone is sweating it out to know if they are on the chopping block. That's not compassionate at all. Could have at least waited until people notified so everyone doesn't feel the crazy wave of what's going on.

Is that why all the execs apologized on last townhall because they knew this was coming? It's so unorganized and why does Kate keep hiring friends? I'm so confused.

Does anyone know which departments are getting hit hardest?

Respect and Gratitude won't replace a paycheck, put food on the table, or presents under the tree. Everyone knows hiring tanks in corporate America around the holidays.
What a great company!

They are keeping us on pins and needles up to maybe the end of Q4!
Not just next week.

They did a similar move a few years ago. Layoffs will happen during a particular quarter but never let the employees know when it was all completed.

What a nice Christmas Bonus!
THANKS BOSS LADY!

I wouldn't worry about whether or not you got the email - the unreliability of our email distribution system probably means the discrepancy is a result of it getting lost in the system for some people, and stuck in spam folders for others.

Regardless, an extremely cruel way to do this. Seems senseless to make everyone live in constant dread for the next week.

Don’t forget Lumen’s “core values of teamwork, trust, and transparency” & that “ we will care for these employees with respect and gratitude for their contributions.”

Well she said she wanted to be a "disruptor". She is disrupting like a MF. Maybe more concentration on actually providing a service and less on inclusiveness, diversity and social media. What a joke.

yepp - got the email saying 4%, 1,200 positions. this is coming from the same CEO who told us months ago that cutting for growth wasn’t working and they cut too deep - no more layoffs. then we were all able to witness her therapy session with brene brown while they congratulated each other on their courage. this company is BS

I read an article from Fierce Telecom saying this:

"As of September 30, Lumen had approximately 30,000 employees, which would mean 1,200 employees will be impacted by these layoffs. As a result of this plan, Lumen expects to pay severance and related costs in the range of $55 to $65 million, according to a filing from the company.

The workforce reduction is expected to be "substantially completed" by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023."

My question is then those that got the email should worried? Isn’t there a process when so many are union positions? It sounds like some people on different teams got this email while others on the same team did not. Is this true?

Well it's all a carefully crafted scene of the KJ and Lumen Gong Show. Send out a vague and poorly written email after a huge portion of your US employees have gone home and send it out 15 minutes before the Q3 earnings call. How convenient! The subject of this email will serve as part of a deflection from the topic at hand, Lumen's poor Q3 earnings.

Vague and poorly written... in a few days we'll say good bye.... blah blah blah. Have you already told the 1200 people the good news? Yes/No? If you did, that's good. The email should have said, all employees affected have all ready been notified. If not, what kind of cruel heartless ba----ds are you Lumen SLT? Now you have a few thousand people wondering tonight if they are getting laid off tomorrow of by the end of week. What about tomorrow when they login? It's all to partially shield your poor and failing leadership.
A positive Employee experience is non-existent in this h*ll hole of a company.

Lumen team –

I have some extraordinarily difficult news that I want you to hear directly from me. Over the coming days, we will be saying goodbye to dedicated and talented members of our U.S. and Canada Lumen team. International decisions and actions will follow a different timeline due to country laws and regulations.

We are deeply rooted in one goal – informing and caring for those who will be parting ways with Lumen. In total, this will involve approximately 4% of our workforce or approximately 1,200 employees, as well as a significant number of contractors and third-party support. With our core values of teamwork, trust, and transparency, we will care for these employees with respect and gratitude for their contributions.

I have learned how connected our team is, the care you have for one another, and the friendships that have been fostered here. As we go through this difficult time, please take care of yourselves and those around you. It’s important that we are here for one another and that you are also taking time to care for yourselves.

We have taken deliberate steps to get Lumen on a growth path. We are investing in the strategic parts of our business and, at the same time, simplifying our operations and product portfolio. We are reducing our real estate footprint as we support a hybrid workforce. We have stopped work that was not adding value. We paused much of our hiring in September. We are divesting non-strategic parts of our business and creating strong partnerships across the globe to help us drive focus. Despite this, we need to see progress happen faster than it is today. We need to reshape our structure to support our business model moving forward and address the incremental cost associated with our debt.

For those who will be leaving us, from the bottom of my heart – thank you. You have my deepest gratitude. Your good work has helped pave the road to our future, and I am honored to have worked with you.

For those remaining with us, transformations are incredibly hard work. We have a purposeful journey ahead. I am confident in you and in our future.

In terms of next steps, the SLT will be hosting a series of opportunities for you to come and ask questions. We will host an Earnings Pop-Up call on Thursday, and our SLT members will be holding check-in meetings and Town Halls. We will create opportunities for us to come together as a team, heal, and ready ourselves for the future.

Best,
