I'm thinking more are coming, because I think the round that just happened was actually the one announced in March: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/seagate-unveils-further-round-layoffs-110409911.html where they said they'd cut 480 people by the end of June to save 50 mil. According to the tracker, they laid off only about 100 people then, but did about 400 last week. Which would imply the big 200 mil cut or whatever it was hasn't happened yet.
Just got laid off last week. Heard another coming in July.
"Is there chance of another layoff?" -- Obviously.
No one still here is for the bright future that Seagate doesn't have. We're here for the inevitable layoff package and for the average income in the meantime.
There will be no more layoffs. We need all hands on deck, including all those useful layers of management, to get DNA storage going.
Just feeling insecure!
At NRM we are hearing Oct - Dec timeframe of this year for another round. Looks like a cleanup round after the dust settles, which seems like SOP for Seagate. If you’re at NRM and you want to keep your job long term get into a Wafer team as soon jobs become available. Otherwise stay where your at and wait for a Package.
Far below the target layoff number.
Get ready for another layoff next quarter. Yep.
Am issue is that most employees are likely not in the USA or NI. Small changes to employee numbers in the USA likely has an outsized impact on costs. Any chance of a "per country" breakdown of employee numbers?
Only 1 product family in road map now?
Next quarter?
If one looks at the number of employees, Almost same as 2017: ~ 40K
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/STX/seagate-technology-holdings/number-of-employees
WW HDD shipments
2010: 650 Million/year
2017: 400 Million/year ~ 40K employee
2022: 166 Million/Year ~ 40K employee
2023: This is the homework for my kids attending Middle School
33 Million/Quarter -> ~ 130 million/year
130/400* 40K= 13K employees for 2023
Is anything wrong with my daughter's calculation? She needs to get an A. So if anyone can fix this calculation. Like adding in efficiency improvements, and automation.
Wtf are we talking. No body can touch Longmont FAANG. We coming
Economy is not doing well, so as other companies, more likely there will be a BiG layoff, lots of spending cut in IT sector, that affect Seagate bottom line.
Check the history of Seagate on this site. Seagate has lots of layoffs. Some tiny, some big, a few huge.
100% or more. Let me guess, you haven't been at Seagate very long.
There's always a likelihood of rifs at seagate.I can see more happening at the start of 2024
