Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Cat got everyone's tongue?

They closed the big thread on stream and now it seems like everyone is afraid to talk anywhere, even on this site.

You my friend must have a screw missing :)
Your 'friend' will in time stab you in the back if she needs to save her own job . Just because you two worked together at your last job doesn't mean she won't stab you in the back, just watch and see!!

Well, the cat surely doesn't have my tongue. I think there is nothing new to report, in fact the tides have changed and good stuff is happening. As I walk the halls here at Twinsburg I am starting to see offices and cubes that were once sitting empty, now have an occupant. Besides seeing many new faces I am seeing many familiar faces from the past. Many of my coworkers who were 'let go' months ago, even years, have been hired back. A parking lot that once sat half full is now filling back up!
So, to all you nay sayers, I say to look again at the company and the direction we are headed in. I believed in my director, SB, and kept my nose to the grind stone. Not only is she my friend, but as my boss she has had my back and the others who listened to her.

Just so you know there is life on the other side. They will have more layoffs. The doors are going to shut. For those who do not believe. You better start believing. If you have families start looking today. After 20 years I was let go. Was the absolute best thing that could have happened. No more worrying. No more BS windstream.

The cat doesn’t have anyone’s tongue. All that’s left are managers. This board will become quieter and quieter as the weeks go by.

They have the highest management to sales ration in the industry and we wonder why they are BK.

I truly feel for the good people that are stuck until the end.

Anyone that posts on Steam (for those of you not employees or past employees of WIN it is like a common knowledge base of process combined with some social functions like FaceBook - post something and get some likes, update process documentation, etc. Great idea but not when trying both foster open communication while moderating dissent...)

So anyone that posts on Stream an opinion divergent from the company line is asking for issues. Not saying it is a terminating offense every time. But it's no different than asking a blatantly aggressive question or opinion in person.

I literally cringed when a former coworker posted a missive how an acquired company many years ago went sideways when WIN management didn't 100% appreciate what that asset was. Was nice to know you dude. Good luck in your new company because you know you are out now. He did. You post something stupid across the entire company on Stream, what are you expecting. Seriously?

WIN is not a democracy. Or a republic. If you haven't noticed. Say what you want when you want. But be ready.

Quote from below: Stream Police: "Hey keep it civil or we'll shut it down".....2 minutes later and no additional posts or likes....Stream Police:" OK, this is enough, we closed it since you can't behave"

Exactly. They were waiting for an excuse to shut that post down. Finally they just had to manufacture a reason. That’s ok, I’m sure our genius exec team will give us a reason to start a new post soon enough.

I find this interesting as I was sifting thru some old post on this website. I know it is older but I think that even the current employment agreement has a similar clause....

  • If, during the Employment Period, Mr. Thomas’ employment is terminated, other than for Cause, Disability or death, or Mr. Thomas terminates his employment with Windstream Holdings for Good Reason, other than during the two-year period following a Change in Control, then Windstream Holdings will pay to Mr. Thomas, in a lump sum, the following amounts: (i) his annual base salary through the date of termination and any other vested benefits, in each case to the extent not previously paid, and (ii) three times his annual base salary...

I know that the amounts of severance may have changed but probably not the "..other than for cause..." statement so wouldn't running a company totally in the ground be enough for cause such as gross mismanagement or derelection of duties etc?

i don't wish anyone harm and really hope Windstream survives but believe that there should be accountability for the actions of those individuals responsible for the current situation at Windstream. This just made me wonder a little bit exactly how safe golden parachutes really are.

Thanks for the post, @1mhs+11cBsvlE This part needs to be tagged properly for more people to see:

this site is aggressive about removing posts that might be considered libelous. That means just about _any_ mention of individuals below the top 5 or so.
Good luck using obscenities and even some other words around here: f—, sh–, damn, a–, etc. The site’s software filters morph them to something less quotable.
The top 5 are probably considered “public figures” under US libel laws but even then they’re legally protected against misleading statements presented as factual. They are not, however, legally protected from harsh opinions.
Harsh opinions abound here.

Nothing says Management can’t post here if they need to correct the record.

In fact, as a customer, I would welcome their participation in the back and forth here.

“ Starting off the 1st quarter out of bankruptcy is key For any hope of existing going forward.”

Look through earlier threads — Management does not intend to exit bankruptcy until late Spring as I recall. That’s the end of their exclusive period to submit and get approved their plan of reorganization. It was extended to then from the earlier date. They had asked for even more time but that was the most they could get.

After that, I expect the biggest creditor, Elliott Management, will become the dominant shareholder and install a new CEO.

I have recordings of being singled out threatened by upper management for voicing concerns and asking questions about the bankruptcy. It was made abundantly clear If I wanted to be a part of the company going forward than I was expected to not to speak up in a group Setting and all questions or concerns should be made in private to direct management. They are hanging by a thread and the smoke and mirrors is covering up for poor revenue numbers is only needed to get to December and secure the bonuses and then the reorg can begin in earnest. I imagine the 3rd quarter numbers are going to be very short of the previous 2. 4th quarter will be spent Clearing out personnel with the focus of being ready to produce day 1 of 2020. Starting off the 1st quarter out of bankruptcy is key For any hope of existing going forward.

_” I've always been clear about the fact that singling individuals out for criticism is grounds for moderation. This is the company intranet — not the forum at TheLayoff.com”_

For the record for any Windstream HR people or executives reading this: this site is aggressive about removing posts that might be considered libelous.

I suspect even choicer comments have been made behind closed doors in all the bankruptcy meetings. Or even at Little Rock country clubs (“shhh - there he is now”)

You can see why senior management would hate adverse comments on this site and others.

Any _normal_ person in charge would feel crushed by their own personal responsibility for the loss of 1000s of families’ incomes, the hollowing out of small towns’ economies (no good broadband, no future), the destruction of 10s of 1000s of retirement accounts, the destruction of billions in lender and shareholder capital. It would hurt to know that 10s of 1000s of people think very little of you — or that very few think very much of you.

But then again, actions carry consequences and this near-universal opprobrium is the result of years of blind hubris, destructive behavior and the total absence of any concept of “stewardship”.

There were many, not just one or two, willfully poor decisions made over the years that got us all here. The whole Uniti spinoff and lawsuit were just small pieces.

So at least some of the top brass worked hard to get themselves in the pit of stink in which they now find themselves.

Not just employees follow this forum; vendors, creditors, and customers do, too.

The "Stream" post was about the company's "Big 5" getting their multi-million bonuses. A lot of people were speaking out against it, publicly, for the first time in some cases. It had 158 comments, and over 36,000 views and when you added up each comments "likes", there were thousands, even thought the thread starter only had 144.

It wasn't until the kool-aid drinkers derailed the post, and basically said that out of 12,000 plus workers, only a hundred or so was posting against it, then that proved that only a select few felt the bonuses were a bad idea and everyone else agreed with it and they were well deserved by TT and team for their hard work in a difficult time.

Then the name calling started and even this site was mentioned. example from the "Stream Police"....."Pretty sure I would not have used the word "bullying," but yes, I've always been clear about the fact that singling individuals out for criticism is grounds for moderation. This is the company intranet — not the forum at TheLayoff.com — and it's my job to keep things civil on this platform."

So, they finally shut it down because they said people went being civil. It went like this....Stream Police: "Hey keep it civil or we'll shut it down".....2 minutes later and no additional posts or likes....Stream Police:" OK, this is enough, we closed it since you can't behave"

I'm a captive ILEC customer that follows this board, a Google News alert on Windstream, and the bankruptcy document filings at http://www.kccllc.net/windstream/document/list/4838. I don't have access to "stream" and I'm not sure I miss it.

I just haven't seen any news lately in those 3 sources. Lots of filings about disputes over this or that detail in an office lease but nothing interesting to me.

There are more court hearings in a few days, I think. (Maybe tomorrow?)

Not afraid, just tired of talking knowing their official answer will be silence. Just sitting back and riding the train to wherever it goes. I'm prepared and have a plan if/when I get laid off or just continue working until. It's just a job.
