Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Anyone mind sharing their experience being placed on a PIP?

You don't have to share personal details that would compromise your identity but after being placed on one myself, and deciding to quit soon after; I always felt it was unwarranted, unexpected, and retaliatory (but not enough to form a fuss over it and pursue any type of action after I left). After dedicating so much time (including lots of overtime and weekends; and going above and beyond with above average annual reviews), I always felt it was never about performance but something else but hard to prove. Hence why PIPs are always the tool for companies to use to get rid of someone.

Anyone else care to share if you feel comfy?

@qe if specific examples aren’t given then they don’t have any. This sounds more like someone has it out for you personally than a performance issue. I’ve been thrown under the bus and got less of a bonus but it isn’t something HR would pursue. It’s complaining among L8+ leaders who have a political ax to grind as they 9 box everyone.

Can anyone share was their early signs you were going to be out on PIP? My review this year was not expected and when I asked my director for specific examples he wouldn’t give me any. Just trying to see if the PIP is in my future.

@m4 Amen! That's exactly what I did. Ended up getting paid 80% for about 6 months while I found other employment. F them.

@jr over many decades I’ve seen so many smart people forced out by poor managers. I’ve written many references or gave phone references. All these former bullseyes have gone on to have great careers at other corporations where they are actually appreciated.

Here’s a tip that may beat your PIP. FMLA. Get one for anxiety or something similar. Have a physician complete it and have them get it to HR.

I was threatened with one and left on my own. I later learned that this particular L7 had a habit of we-ponizing HR and used the same playbook on somebody else on this team. I’m now a strong performer at my new company. I’m the same person. This company is beyond toxic and it’s future is Kmart 2.0.

PIP doesn’t stand for Performance Improvement Plan. PIP stands for Paid Interview Period. Start looking for a new job and put all of your energy toward that and not trying to meet the goals on a PIP. Your future self will thank you.
