Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Layoffs August 16-18

I have this on my personal google calendar, but with no recollection as to how it was added (as I'm now in the stage of my USAA career known as "Using White Claw As A Mixer").
I am going to guess it's from a layoff posting? Anyway. That's in two weeks.

There is an All Thumbs meeting today, maybe something will be mentioned. Most likely it will be some forced fun about RTO.

Directors/AVPs from which departments?

I think there will be additional announcements this week. I know some directors/avps who have had to justify their team’s existence recently. Also, I believe this is budget season so 2024 budgets are due very soon which means they need to know FTE numbers to back into the budget.

Godspeed on the mixer transition. Nice job setting the example of embracing change.

I am the original poster. I have no new information - as I said no memory of how this got onto my calendar. The only update I can provide is that I ran out of White Claw this week and am making a temporary switch to Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer. Over.

RTO is ok but hybrid should be 2-3 days MAX in the office. Driving to campus should be if you live in the same city or within 30 miles. A one way trip over a 30 mile commute is over 60mins.

Is there any basis for these benefit cut rumors or are they just speculation based on what’s happened in the past?

Not saying they will or won’t happen, just curious.

White Claw mixer, rough. On benefits that could still get worse. Paid covered parking? The garage was over capacity before COVID.

The last round started 7/20 and the last working date is 9/18

The silent end to BYOD was shady! If you need a phone for work, you have to buy it at full price yourself! Whats next? Laptops?

Re: benefit cuts, I predict no Christmas bonus, to start. Then probably an overhaul of medical, with the goal of having the company pay less, making it more expensive for the employee. Likely a reduction of the 401(k) match and PTO. Just like with the BYOD program changes, these will happen in the middle of the night. We will find out about the medical during open enrollment; we will find out there’s no Christmas bonus in December.

Great, more benefit cuts. What’s on the chopping block this time?

I trust what I read on this site more than what is said during employee meetings/town halls. We had a small round of layoffs just a few weeks back, which was mentioned on this site prior to them taking place.

Layoffs are staggered now and into 2024. Expect benefits to be cut too. Tamla is exploring that with her peers already and those decisions will impact us all.

The dates are most likely following the time since the last layoffs (May) and the assumption Exe is breaking waves into 60-day intervals. The only rumor (keyword) I have been hearing is Bank/IT is going to have hits between August/September as I don't think Exe want to be seen doing layoffs closer to holidays.
