Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Why aren't more of you leaving?

Things are bad. They are worse than they have ever been. I would leave if I could but due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, I'm stuck here for now. I can't understand those of you who are not stuck like I am. What's keeping you here? Why not leave when you can?

It’s shocking. Went to a competitor a year ago being told “it’s not always greener” and boy were they wrong. Nice working for a company that rewards you for performance and worries about talent leaving so they pay bonuses and very competitive raises. Smart companies entice you with more money and then continue to try to retain. Allstate has zero retention plan that I was aware of. It’s nice not being thought of as an expense on a balance sheet!!!

My experience with Flo has been the complete opposite of those posted above. I love it here. Culture isn't toxic. People are transparent and helpful. I also came with alot of PTSD from Allstate so maybe I am still in shock. Leaving Allstate still ranks among the best things I have done though.

I’m here because I honestly like my job and making a difference. Allstate is far from perfect but in my experience, as an employer they were there when it mattered most. My coworkers are considered my work family with so many great people that I feel honored and privileged to have worked with and known. Work from home is an extremely high bonus for me. I appreciate my pay, benefits, and PTO. (Though don’t we always wish our pay was higher?) I enjoy the challenge that my work brings. Again, not a perfect company, but no company is. I’ve had highs and lows at my Allstate career and times when I wanted to run for the hills, but overall it’s been a pretty darn good ride.

@1lqi+1jBTvwws Well I worked there over 9 years ago, and it definitely differs based on your manager (like any job). If it’s ok so far then Im happy for you, maybe you are the “chosen one” lol

@1kzn+1jBTvwws and @1sva+1jBTvww- thank you for following up. I work at prog now and although it seems ok, I am a little concerned that it is just a façade and I'm going to wake up in the type of nightmare I was at with Allstate. After Allstate, I definitely have ptsd so although it does honestly seem better here.. I cant but help to take your experience to heart. I guess I can only pray it doesn't turn into a different kind of he-l.

@1gjz+1jBTvwws It was years ago in New England. I was a file owner at the time. Mountains of pending, being assigned 3 new files 10 minutes before the end of my shift you MUST work. 2 hour callback expectations. Stupid “total care” notes were we had to make conversation with claimants about things unrelated to the claims. All customers get surveys and you are trash if you get a bad one. They always have a “chosen one” to move through the ranks. I could go on. The metrics and immediate management sucked, I did like my coworkers though, morale was better but this was also years ago

I can say from experience Flo is just as bad. Got laid off in 2020 and got hired there almost immediately. Had high hopes. Better pay, still could work from home, and initially seemed like better atmosphere and culture. I knew better about 30 days in. It is actually worse. At least Allstate lies to your face. Flo does it behind your back. And had much more taken out of my checks at Flo in taxes and benefits so I really brought home the same each paycheck. Since I was still within my 12 months from being RIFd I got back in with Allstate about 9 months after being let go and 7months after starting at Flo. Got tenure and pay back as my new role's band was in line with my prior pay. Been back here ever since but what was once a career is now just a paycheck. Doing the minimum and looking forward to every other Friday. Just like everyone else I know here. And hoping for another severance although we have heard nothing regarding impacts for my area so we seem to be safe for now.

I have 18 years here and like the PTO, work from home, goodbenefits, and option for a 9 month severance possibly. I hate my job and hate this company as the culture is nothing but a pack of lies. But morale is so low and our leadership in my area does not care at all so I can do 70% effort and still make decent money while "quiet quitting". Job market around here has all but dried up over the last few months so limited options. My time to get out was 5-6 months ago and I missed the train. And better to face the devil you know than one you don't. And my peers that went to Progressive and Geico are just as miserable there as they were here.

@npv+1jBTvwws: you think prog is worse than this place?? where did you work when you were there? This place is like below the bottom of a dog fe--s pile. What makes this place better? Honest question.

Like driving down the highway and seeing an accident, everyone wants to see what happened. Lot of employee's waiting for the paramedics to show up.

The same thing is happening at so many other orgs - it’s hard to know where you might be ‘safe’.. The fed is encouraging all of corporate America to slow/freeze hiring (and probably encouraging RIFs behind the scenes) to reduce consumer buying power to fight inflation. Right now, I know my area is not being impacted - we already run ridiculously lean. If the job market had not taken the turn it has and is expected to continue to take into 2023, then going elsewhere would be a great option for me. Right now, this is just a semi-secure paycheck that i am relying on to navigate through the economic uncertainties we’re all facing. It sucks feeling stuck at an org whose values don’t align with yours, but I feel like the smart thing to do now is utilize org resources to solidify my marketability as a job candidate, prepare myself for job search, and lay low in the meantime.

I get to work from home and get a decent salary/PTO/benefits. I would rather put up with the known BS here then start all over elsewhere. I worked for prog and they suck worse, if not more, than this place IMO. I also made poor life choices unrelated to this job and am stuck financially. I’ll do this as long as I can until the lay me off and send my job to India. This isn’t a career for me, it’s just a paycheck.

Honestly, for my role, this company currently pays the highest and since my department hasn’t been affected much I’m willing to stay as long as possible or at least until I can keep my 401k match.

I have been with the company 15 years so that would be 30 weeks of severence. No reason to leave now when I will find out my fate in January and possibly get severence

Because things are so bad right now...a gut feeling tells me there will be some major changes in the near future. This is coming from a 35 year employee. Can't point out anything specific - just a hunch. Corporate leaders are worthless - as are local levels of management. Icahn obviously sees it...Buffet too. Insurance rate increases and stock buy backs have run their course and are not the answer to financial stability with this sh#t show Allstate has become.
