Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Do not be afraid to move/relocate out of state

According to my calculations in 6 months I will be unable to make the following payments:

  1. Unable to pay mortgage
  2. Unable to assist my with subsiding my out of state daughters college tuition and housing
  3. Unable to pay Cost of Cobra Insurance for family
  4. Unable to pay family cell phones and cable.

5 ) Unable to make payment on car loans
6 ) Unable to pay utilities
7 ) Unable to pay youngest daughters private school tuition

This a grim situation. At this point job opportunities for over 50 + employees is limited in the Bellevue/Seattle area.

The good news is the house is almost paid off and I was just received a job offer in Dallas, TX. The plan now is to sell the house and move to Texas. The price of housing is very reasonable. After we sell our house and buy the next house in the metro DFW area will still have 1 Million in cash left over from the house sale. It is amazing what the size of house you can get in Texas. Also, according to my calculations our family standard of living will increase.

The reason I share this is to help others understand that many times better opportunities exist out of state.

Do not be afraid to move or look for opportunities out of state.

Do not get in the Bunker and try and wait for better weather. Everyday you are unemployed you are burning cash.

Best,

HEB - Hear Everything Better

PS: HEB is a super market in the DFW area.

If you are in Texas give it a try and also check out Buc-ee's.

We are moving to Just outside of Houston, TX and we are excited. My wife who now works at AMAZON was offered a new job at a new company in the Houston area. It is a sweet deal and and we she has full relocation.

I am also excited to exit T Mobile with a package. I have put some applications out in the Houston area and have some positive responses.

Migratory locusts, so you move from suburb to suburb voting for whomever the media says is the most popular. You should move to Austin instead of DFW, that's where the trendy people are. Either place has the same issues of water, ercot, and school tax districts wanting to drain you dry.

Regarding moving to Texas:

My intent in posting was to just offer hope and let you know that not all opportunities are in the Seattle / Bellevue area.

I am not telling anyone to move to Texas. In my case the opportunity appeared and I decided to take the opportunity. You can move to any state you want. You can stay WA State. Do what ever maintains or increases your standard of living. I do not care.

Regarding the comment about not moving because of children.

Why are you letting your children dictate decisions regarding moving/relocating?

If you want to involve the kids then ask them what the plan is to pay the bills?

I would only listen to may kids if the paid the mortgage, paid for the cell phones, paid for the cable, paid the COBRA Health Insurance, paid the car loans, paid the utilities, paid the college tuition, paid my company 401K match and etc.

If you move out of state you forfeit your ability to collect unemployment

OPS whole list of points was how grim the situation was and not being able to pay anything…….then followed up by having a million in cash. Many folks getting laid off are definitely in a more “grim” situation.

OMG!!! Why are people taking offense to the OP moving to Texas. GROW UP and stop acting like children. It was a great suggestion, one of which you don’t need to take if you don’t want to. BTW, whoever said “I don’t feel sorry for OP because he’ll have a million dollars when he moves” think (unselfishly) for once and think about EVERYTHING he has to give up to better his family and the work it takes to pack your life up, get a realtor, sell your house, MOVE several states and THEN find a home and start a new job. If people could learn just ONE word and implement it we’d get so much further in this world…have you ever heard of RESPECT? We’re way overdue for some compassion, empathy and respect. The constant fighting and negativity is getting so old.

I was laid off a couple of mos. ago and the only offers I've gotten have been in the South. Unfortunately I am not able to relocate due to my kids and older parents. If you're able to, I'd strongly consider moving to Texas or Florida. After tons of interviews, it seems like the South is the only area of the country truly hiring at this time, especially for senior level positions.

If I get a package this week, I'll use garden leave to begin the process of exiting the PNW.

I think you all are missing the point. The OP didn't say "everyone move to Texas." He's saying not to be afraid to move for a new job, it could be financially beneficial.

Not sure why this had to turn into politics. If you're not happy with the way the politics are in a specific state, then don't consider that job offer.

OP thank you for sharing and congratulations on the quick bounce. I hope the rest of us affected find something that works for our lifestyles and families as well. <3

Texas housing prices have been hugely inflated over the last 1-2 years because people keep moving here from more expensive states and overpaying for homes. I'm basically stuck in my current home because I can't make enough to afford to move to another area in the greater DFW area.
