Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Remote and Posting

Is it true about what came out of Wayne’s leadership call today? I hear remote people are now allowed to apply for roles and remain remote. He has always said we could post but HR would not interview. Has this finally been lifted? Are they realizing they lost way too much good talent by this BS rule? Or is he just talking out of his butt again?

This being the same day all NMC employees within 50 miles were stripped of their W@H status! Don’t let them fool you- I was W@H for 5+ years and met the qualification of remaining W@H due to being W@H prior to April ‘21; however, HR pointed to the asterisk beside that and noted this is at manager discretion. Everyone I know in NMC that was W@H prior to COVID was stripped of W@H. I truly believe they put the April ‘21 date in the MTP to make it “look” like they were doing the right thing, but it’s all an illusion— just like this is, I’m sure! Anything to “save face”. I swear Wayne and EMG thinks we’re all id--ts!

Work remote at your own risk

Too bad these decisions are being made after laying off so many remote employees - some of whom were military veterans. The damage to USAA’s reputation has already been done.

Also leaders to the hiring manager; “no”

To the post below: the idea of usaa following up with former employers to verify complaints of bullying at other organizations is hilarious. They don't even handle the complaints of bullying here! Managers have a blank check to te--orize people. You will ONLY get some relief if someone at an executive level becomes grossed out or irritated by one of their lesser reports playing god and puts them in a mini time out

It seems true but this is coming from the sane folks that told you remote was forever. On-site people will be preferences at all cost imo don’t fall for the BS rats are leaving faster than anticipated and this is a sad attempt to hold on to talent. Actions speak louder

Crazy how someone can wake up and log in in their pajamas but people that are forced to drag their a-s into a stinky office 3-4 days a week get penalized if they miss a day even if performance is equal.

You really could say this about any level. There are always going to be people who sneak their way into roles that they aren’t qualified for. I am not sure what mess you are talking about people in remote work. Please elaborate a bit more. We also all went through background checks so not sure what doing them again will do.

You sound a little bit bitter from some interactions you have had with Leads and Directors. Like I said it could happen at all levels and with internal or external hires. I had one of the worst managers ever and the person was on the team for a long time beforehand. Sh-t leaders just happen.

There are people in director and lead roles who are remote but should not be in leadership positions. I thought USAA was going to clean up this mess, but I was wrong. I hope they redo background checks and communicate with previous companies to verify if leadership skills were falsified or if there were complaints against them. Major bullying/retaliation within these roles.

I give the EC credit they washed their hands of it and putting it on the mid and low level managers. Snakes!

Translation: hiring managers will receive extraordinary pressure to “independently” decide that in order to be successful the person cannot be remote. This is damage control; a way to make his gaffe in the employee meeting not as bad.

I wouldn’t count on it

I heard from a credible source that it’s true. The hiring manager can now make the decision if they would like to hire an existing remote employee.
