Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Is recruiting backlogged or is nobody applying?

We've had a GTO position open for 4 months now. We've been getting really frustrated that we get no resumes and our HRBP doesn't seem to know why. It's not a niche position so I would have thought we'd have at least one qualified person apply by now.

Can't get our own FSA software to work! Ha, ha!

And don't even think about having a separate 401K contribution for AVIP!

Then there's the PTO, uh, excuse me, "absence management" software...

@1kxh+1gtroBAV it's going to depend so much on who is above you and who you're expected to collaborate with. I use the word collaborate loosely since not much real collaboration happens. Tech is a total mess at this company. It'll take years and probably a couple rounds of VPs to solve it. Assuming it's ever solved. We can't even get our own FSA software to properly work for our employees

"Not to mention the poor partnering and peer relationships amongst VPs who are all trying to build their own empires, no care for comprehensive strategy and future sustainability."

This is so spot on that it hurts. I have never worked somewhere like MetLife where every AVP and VP seems to be in a fiefdom pi----g match with each other. And over the stupidest cr-p. Half the time I'm reading my emails thinking, "This is the hill you want to die on, Todd? Really?" I feel like half of the company's problems could be solved by eliminating the territorialism.

It's very hard to get any candidates nowadays.
Startups are all the rage now, awash in money.

I can tell you that I know of people who were offered Leadership positions to stay on and declined. People jumping ship in GTO and also USB. Ask questions about long term strategy. Technology landscape is inadequate, obsolete, and a patched up landfill that continues to grow. A lot of outsourcing and offshoring. Exhausted workforce, poor morale, with a high attrition rate makes it easy for people to turn down leadership roles. Not to mention the poor partnering and peer relationships amongst VPs who are all trying to build their own empires, no care for comprehensive strategy and future sustainability. If interested in playing games, navigating an old school management mentality, including short term pay dirt, come on aboard. Sorry but you asked for the truth. If you have other VP offers think long and hard.

Looking at MetLife jobs and thinking about applying for VP technology role. Are VPs able to make positive impacts for change? Let's assume for this scenario that I'm competent, friendly, not an a-ho-e, someone who has an adequate EQ, and doesn't want to work in a toxic environment. Are there areas of the company to avoid or to gravitate towards?

Stringing people along. Don't worry, we're getting you "Help" for the team. Yet, the longer they wait to hire, the more money saved against the annual budget.

HR is probably filtering out anyone who isn't a DEI candidate.

Ha! Maybe it's the hiring manager and the comp. I've seen positions posted for 6+ months, with good external candidates turning them down due to comp and internal due to the hiring managers. This is why we continue to employ below par employees. Cream of the crop want and deserve better.

Im willing to bet that no one is applying. Why would anyone want to apply unless they were hungry or needed experience? And I am being serious here- it is not as if the pay is compatible and remote office is easy to come by….here it is playing out MerLife!
