Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Fear is the motivator

I used to LOVE working at Centene. I loved interacting with my colleagues on a daily basis. But ever since the last round of layoffs the environment has drastically changed. It’s sad because now everyone is on eggshells and stressed out. Some are even looking elsewhere for jobs. Everyone’s afraid to lose their job (including me) and who could blame us. This is so unhealthy and I’m beginning to question if I should remain or follow others and start looking.

I escaped three lay offs. I was at company 1 for four years. I was able to find something within the company and that department started laying off months later as well. I ran to company 2 and was there 3 months, and they started laying off. I was told my team was safe, not true, I left and came to Centene, a year later, that department at company 2 were all laid off. Barely three years here at Centene, finally made it to a position that I enjoyed, and skipped levels. Then I was laid off this round.

They are all a gamble. No matter where we go. This time around it’s a pandemic and this job market is rough and full of lowballing.

all I can say is my 1st job i panicked after layoffs were done and I started looking out of fear and landed a job at another insurance company. It was great. I loved it. Pay was good. Felt like a family. And then 3 years later I was one of the 1st let go when they did a RIF out of nowhere. then I came to Centene. survived the layoffs so far. there is NO company out there who will promise you job security I don’t care who it is. so I don’t know. I’m just going to keep working and if I get the call then I’ll go from there but I have decided to just keep working and do my job and take it one day at a time.

Take a look at a handful of the thousands of other companies on this very website of layoff discussions. You are just as likely to be laid off at a different company as you are with Centene. The job market is tough right now and layoffs aren’t only happening at Centene. This is why I simply do not understand why people who were not part of the layoffs are already trying to jump ship as if the next company would guarantee them safe from layoffs. Reality check: nope.

Layoffs like this have happened at all 4 of the big companies I worked for prior to coming to Centene. Feel free to keep LinkedIn up to date just in case you ever do get “that zoom meeting”.

You still have a job right now. My advice would be to keep it. You could be next on the chopping block. But then again you may never end up on the chopping block.

@1krm+19DF9log Yes, I heard the same thing about May. I was laid off this month and I wasn’t part of an acquisition.

I have heard the next round of layoffs are May, could just be a rumor. It will probably be sometime after the Magellan acquisition which I thought was ongoing now . WellCare was purchased sometime in or around July and completed in December. Laid off in February. My question is has it just been Legacy WellCare employees laid off. If so if you work for Magellan, RUN WHILE YOU CAN...

Same. I also thought I had more time. Get out while you can on your own terms. This layoff was a first for me and it’s changed how I will move forward in my future employment. These companies are all about numbers. They do not care about us. So don’t sit and wait to be dumped. The writing is on the wall. The uneasy feeling is there. Get a move on.
