UK HR Policies Update

Here we go again not getting pay rise is bad enough. I just seen an email where DXC has announced their reviewed HR policy and have decided to reduce call-out standby rate. This comes into affect from 1st December.

Your pay rise will be the same whether you dig them out a hole or let it sink. Until the management have to take the flack on exactly why they failed things will carry on as they are with more zero percent rises.

The solution to get us back on track is - pay rises, and respect for technical staff that have made this thing work for years.

Nothing is being done now unless escalated, it's dragging everything to a halt with endless emails and meetings. More money gets spent on management than doing. This is why we don't make a profit!

"Get real your counter parts in the US get max 8 weeks pay when riff’ed and on call you get nothing"

Should have chosen your government more wisely.

Stop whining about your system.

Unless I've been massively underclaiming for years without realising, hasn't the base standby rate actually gone UP? I'm 99% sure of it.

On call and standby pay was pittance anyway, even before this change.
Not worth sacrificing quality family time over the evenings and weekends....
I just hope the clients do get a whiff of this, and then demand that DXC reduces the out of hours support rates that they charge to the client, given that they are now going to pay less to the employees who actually provide the service.
Someone please let this information "accidentally slip" when with a client at the pub next time !!

@1kjd+1pwZ4XHj I’ve seen how much the customer is charged for ooh work when a project manager sent me a document he shouldn’t have, it’s disgusting how DXC treat their staff.

The response timings are also interesting, if they're too restrictive they'll have to pay you for every hour you are on call. i.e. if you effectively have to sit by the phone or your movements are restricted too much. Bet they're not prepared to do that. You should carefully check your contracts, as this new policy may be unenforceable in your particular case. The key concept is "Mechanism of change". If there isn't one in your contract, just work to your old conditions. If they pay you less than expected, thats an unauthorised deduction of wages. Also, any changes must be reasonable.

It's also unlikely that the standby element of your job forms part of your employment contract. So there will be a separate notice period for it. Life commitments change...

In any event, if it does affect you and you don't like it, you need to speak up or you'll be deemed to have accepted it...

I have been refusing overtime for the past two yrs due tobtge pathetic rates. My contract states x amount of salary for 38hrs work with rises subject to pay review when in force - or words to that effect. If they want be to work over those 38hrs or at the weekend then they have to pay me at an acceptable rate

No it is not. This is theft. The company charges the client additional money for your out of hours work, then pockets it.
Overtime is used in preference to Right-Sizing as salary is about 1/3 to 1/2 the total cost of employing a worker.
If you contracted a company to mow your front yard, then told them that you expected them to mow your back yard - and receive no payment for it - what do you think their response would be?
"Oh, that's the yard mowing industry"?

Your contract is a 2-way agreement: work in exchange for pay, extra work in exchange for extra pay.
It really is quite a simple concept

The call out/standby rate changes was months ago. There was lots of "discussion", DXC even had to reissue things as HR had messed up as usual and made it gibberish.

It's not changing twice in the same year.

But it's never enough for the inconvenience, once that laptop lid closes I forget DXC exists.

They are charging the customers for this service so it's extra revenue.

Why dontvthe lazy buns US salesman sell it to the customers that way the company can grow not shrink.

Let's be grateful these guys are bringing in extra revenue $ they should be compensated.

On calm rate ? We in the US get not one penny for being in call or working more than 40 hours a week. If you get anything then be grateful

How far have those poncey ar$eclowns dropped the callout rate? When I was on call for BAE and other UK accounts it used to be 1.25x during weekdays and 1.5x weekends, 2x on bank holidays
