New Fab Normandale

How is the new fab coming on in Normandale? Is it true the tools from Springtown are being shipped over one by one? Plenty of gaps in there atm, and the promise of new tools that they seem to be in no hurry to install. Not a great vibe about Springtown, an end of the road feeling.

@1jwd We have heard some whispers about STST tools being targeted for movement to NRM, those are rumors and I haven’t heard it at an official level. The new fab has a large # of new tools that have been ordered, so any shipment of STST systems must be small in #. Best of luck Irish Gaters

Anyone know if it's true the Corned Beef and Cabbage is going to be cut in STST cafeteria? Keep seeing this mentioned here.

"@1jwd+1mu2tJmn Stop trolling mate.I can't see 35-40% of operators being made redundant on top of the rest of the factory redundancies" - if demand has reduced by 40% then common sense dictates that 40% less operators are required. It could be as many as 50 per shift

Seagate was in trouble long before any unions were mentioned.

Be logical.

Moving activity X from one location to another location will reduce expense if the savings in the new location exceeds the costs of the relocation.

That is a small savings.

Shutting down a site is a big savings. No more rent or building depreciation, no more maintenance, no more power and utilities. Eliminate functions that are site specific.

If the company wants to save bigly, ask what sites it can close? Ask what functions it can transfer?

When you answer that with truth then you see a logical plan.

Seagate are making redundancies regardless if a place is unionised or not.If its cheaper to move elsewhere they will do it,even if there is no unionised involved.

Oh I’m off base am I? Why don’t you look at what Starbucks and Amazon do to unionized sites. Do some homework mate!

HAMR was away to normandale long before the push for a union in seagate derry.I don't see how you can blame Seagate potentially being unionised in the future for something that happened a few years ago.Thats an id--tic statement you made.

Doubt unionization in STST has anything to do with transferring work to NRM. Simple truth is there is simply too much capacity, and HAMR issues mean head manufacture needs to work more closely with drive staff. You can do that easier between NRM and Shakopee vs. Shakopee and STST.

So you thought you were just going to be allowed to unionize with no repercussions? You don't know how merciless and cut throat US corporations are then.

It is true STST tools are being shipped to NRM. I've heard they plan to cut STST by 35-40%

They are starting to finish the exterior walls and roof. Utilities contractors have been working but as usual the VP types are trying to do things on the cheap. The high paid fools are cutting corners and it will cost much more in the long run. Main concerns will be man power issues with lack of Operators and a severe lack of Technicians. Most of the current Equipment Technicians are only a few years from retirement with a 25% cut coming. Lucky we are 5x over staffed on VP and Directors at NRM so we that going for us.
