@1kws+1n2ctDxr MAMR doesn't work, other than in dreams of a certain CMU professor. I will point out his model only looks at a single grain in isolation. Want to guess what happens when you have all the grains going?
ePMR runs a current through the write head to reduce the switching time for the head. If they are brilliant enough to add an STO in there too, well, great. More cost for no gain. Or go buy one of the TDK heads w/ SDK media and tell me how great it is. I'll wait.
Management has been saying HAMR is coming out next year for the last 5 years. Do they have the cash today to start buying capital to ramp mass production next year? Seems like at least a billion would be needed to ramp, which STX does not have even after selling assets.

@1jdd+1n2ctDxr heard MAMR was diluted to ePMR so no mentions. BoA interviewed their CFO this week, who said they're looking out 1-1.5 years for HAMR, meaning adoption and any revenue contribution
ePMR decreases the write head jitter which is small compared to write jitter. it doesn't do much. What MAMR drives? WD was suppose to ship in 2019. Nothing. They do not talk about it. Toshiba, in case you don't know, is falling apart for the past decade.
As for his claims about HAMR, we'll see soon enough.
