Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Spitcanned and loving it

I got my surplus notice in late Aug, with a 60 day runway to look for an internal transfer. I sent in about 30 applications through career path and was notified that I had made the cut for 23 of them and would be interviewing for 11. But since this is att, nothing has happened. The jobs are still there, but in typical att fashion, nobody is actually doing anything.

Which is fine, because I've also sent out a grip of applications to outside companies and have had a half dozen interviews, with two potential offers coming. All for more pay and at companies that aren't nearly as toxic, mismanaged, and dysfunctional as T.

Oh, and I've told my Director, my VP, and Arroyo, McElfresh, and Stinkhole to go f*ck themselves directly and without sparing any honesty.

It feels great to finally sc-ape off the T scum that sticks to anything that comes in contact with this horrible place. The only downside I can see is losing my free DTV service, but I'll get over that nice and quick.

It will be fun watching T slowly burn to the ground, now that I'm no longer trapped in the flames.

Well said.

First and foremost, I don’t believe for a second this guy/gal’s story. However, even if the initial part about being surplused was true, there’s zero chance he told off all of his leadership on the way out. That’s the douchiest part of the entire story and most certainly fabricated. What a tool.

Just another sad pathetic loser on here looking for attention or looking to get a rise out of people.

This kind of stuff has never made sense to me. Do you get more money because of the rants? When an employee leaves, they'll indicate on the paperwork whether or not the employee should be rehired.

AT&T is all over the country. I know people that thought they never would work for them again, work for them again. Even if everything is true in the rants, why needlessly burn a bridge? And there are different AT&Ts. I've worked in different departments. Some were the best jobs ever, and others were the worst job ever. The only constant was, nothing last for ever.

Now, on the other hand, if you already know you're not eligible for rehire, then maybe rant away.

Best of luck! Sadly we weren’t given the option to elect to take a package. I sure as hell would have taken it. Now I have to quit without the extra cash to go with it. I’m going to try to do next to nothing for the rest of the year other than interview for new jobs externally. That is very difficult for me to do since I’m so used to over achieving and stay busy. I’m not used to doing nothing. Need to use up my remaining vacation time. Most companies won’t hire until Jan/Feb next year anyways, so doesn’t make sense to leave before then and have no time off for the holidays. So my plan is to use up vacation, come back in Jan and turn in my notice. Then I’ll at least get what little bonus there would be in March.

Good luck in your interview with McDonalds and Burger King. Don’t disclose your employment at AT&T or you might not get the job.

I'm shocked they picked you out of the 19. You seem like a joy to work beside day-after-day.

While reading through the original post he mentioned having 60 days to find a job I assumed he was craft but by the end of his post it appears he was not and believe it was pretty clear that management was only given 14 days after being tapped, and not given the option of looking for anything internally Credibility comes into question

OP here again.

I was in the BBV group, rolling up under VP Dillard. Impacted employees in our group were given 60 days. 5 out of 19 in my cohort got the notice. In my surplus packet was a notification of the breakdown of both age and title of who was released. All were L2 personnel, ages 26, 48, 56, 57, and 63.

The email I sent did not include any expletives or names or overt insults. But I did criticize leadership's incompetence and mismanagement by listing their errors/mistakes. And no, I did not get any response.

I am sorry you are all so angry and filled with bile that you can't accept the truth of this, but every word of my post is 100% authentic. Honestly, if you don't want to believe it that's your choice, but whatever. The best part is I no longer have to put up with T's toxicity, "leadership's" incompetence, or negative co-workers like you. I am now 11 days away from being officially out of the horrible environment that T has created, and am actually enjoying sitting back and watching Stinkhole take all of you down with the ship.

Too bad there aren't enough lifeboats for everyone!

I agree this sounds made up. Those 60-90 days before off payroll have across the board been reduced to 14 days.

I agree with the other poster who thinks there is some non-truth to this post. If you are still indeed on ATT payroll and you sent the e-mails of which you speak you would have been terminated for COBC violation and any severance that was offered would also be terminated.

This is just a job. Even if you are fired, and let go, what is the point of all that bitterness and sending emails to directors and VPs and ... This is a small world. You would be amazed how we may come into contact with those we may have p-ss-d off, and then you regret that move. It is an experience thing. Being surplussed is not fun, still, take the last paycheck and put your energy towards next goal (new job or retirement or whatever).

I sense a lot of rage-filled projection.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's true. Every word. My last day at the deathstar is Oct 19. I have a second interview with one company tomorrow morning, and a third with a different company on Wed the 14th. I currently have 12 submissions in Career Path that are at either moved to the hiring manager or are slotted for interview - but I doubt I'll actually be contacted before the 19th, because AT&T is that way.

And I sent an email to all the self-named 'Leaders' telling them that they have k–led morale, that they are incompetent and greedy, and that their policy of mass layoffs to cover up for their basic inability to manage a company is the first sign of total failure.

I expect to be working someplace else by the beginning of Nov, for a higher salary and higher satisfaction. I feel sorry for you, though. Your bitterness and self-pity seems to be pretty high. Feel better, little girl.

Congrats. I was in same boat, same type of outcome. I came to the realization the internal job postings and the selections for interviews are only so they can cover their collective a$$ on paper. They really do not intent to hire. There are exceptions of course, but for the majority of cases, it is a smoke screen.

The only drawback to all of this, is we should have left voluntary a long time ago.
