Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Stroke of luck - got good job offer

I’ve been looking for a while and got lucky. It is an excellent job offer. Now I just have to wait till the 8th, and see if I’m laid off. If so, it’s win-win. Maybe my case is the exception and I was just really lucky, or it isn’t that bad out there. In any case, to all of you who are worried because of the coming layoffs, don’t be. Being laid off is something you can’t change, but you can change everything else. I hope that all of those who lose their jobs next week find better opportunities soon.

@1eqw+1tQ21rLV - Still incorrect. Next time you do your research read what it actually states. See this post for an accurate example: @1eqw+1tQ21rLV

50% payout is only for remaining of SUP weeks (after 30 days of notice). For example if you get 10 wks of SUP and you find another job after 4 wks. Then pay out is only 50% of remaining 6 wks which is 3 wks.

I've been rif'd before. When you get a job, pay ends. There is no payout. Look up supplemental pay and it explains that! I've done my research, do yours...smh

Incorrect. Please do your research before posting false info.

@EGO, the 50% terms are stated in the document posted under "HR" on Pulse.

RIF letter have it mention when is the termination (last) day. Which is 30 days for 10/20 RIFs. Can’t say if they changed it this time.

Ok. So say you do get RIF’ed. What if they expect you to work 30-60 days before you receive your SUP pay. What are you goin to do? Are you expecting the new offer to wait 4 days (Thursday) until you find out if you are RIF’ed are not? In this market? 🫤😵‍💫

@1icj+1tQ21rLV does last day mean the last day of the thirty day notice?

@1icj+1tQ21rLV Thanks for confirming the 50% remaining balance payout still exists once you are out and collecting supplemental pay. That is how I hope to turn this negative into a positive for me.

Congratulations!!! 50% pay out is only when your next job starts after last day of RIF. Before that you will be disqualified for SUP.

Congrats! Don't wait to accept. Wait to resign if you can make the timing work.

accept the job offer. Do not wait 4 days to do it, negotiate a 3 week start date if you feel like you can get more from them, then you can wait until Thursday to tend your resignation and maybe negotiate a payout that someone on this site mentioned (that i'd never heard of before).
However if its with a competitor, when you tend your 2 week notice they will dismiss you immediately and give you 2 weeks paid off.

Do you get severance if you have a job?

I have honestly never heard of this 50% payout until I read it this week in this site. It’s not published anywhere.

What happened to remaining supplemental paying out at 50% if you find a job externally with the layoff period? Did they get rid of that too? I have looked and can't find it in any posted rif documents recently. It used to be in the docs years ago.

My recommendation...Take the "Excellent job offer". Why wait to see if you are rif'd 8/8. If you have an excellent job offer and then decline the offer on 8/8, you may be burning the bridge with the other company. Not a good idea in this job market. I wouldn't wait...I would take the job offer. That is a win win for you and the other company. Don't mess up this opportunity. Your choice of course, but this is what I would do.

Why would you wait till 8/8? They aren’t giving out severance they’re giving out supplemental pay and the minute you start employment somewhere else it ends don’t lose a job offer waiting for money. That’ll never come.

Congratulations on the new job! I wonder what will happen to GBD associates ?
There are Medicare, Commercial / Medicaid teams that merged after a reorg when Commercial took over all last fall. I’m sure a huge RIF is coming 8/8
The unknown is the worst part.

Congrats on the offer!

I don't see any reason to wait, because if you get laid off but already have a job, you're going to lose supp and unemployment, at least if you don't lie. This isn't a usual type of severance, where you're just paid out for X time; you have to report to both the company and your state EDD all your applications and whether or not you get an offer, in order to keep both. At least as I understand it, anyway.

If it's a great offer, I'd just take it -- especially since there will be another huge RIF after this one.

Here's hoping you get to enjoy a sweet double-dip at Elevance's expense. And here's hoping your next company has a name that people actually know, understand, and care about. Haha!
