Feelings after you've been laid off?

What does it feel like to be totally unexpectedly laid off after more than a decade of loyalty, hard work and numerous promises from my manager - the feeling is miserable. The way I was told makes me even more miserable. I'm not going to say I don't care because it's not true. Some even say they finally got some relief. In my case, I'm just terribly frustrated with how little the company cares about their employees.

@2kqd+1gqzSwxj you are spot on. Today's company wide meeting aka the "be grateful you have a job meeting" should show everyone HOW FAST THEY MOVE ON. You can't be mad about it, it's the game.

After many rounds at Sprint, it surprises me that management doesn't get this (or care): those laid off are impacted immediately. They process, recalibrate, move on, often end up much happier. It's true. Those who "survive", every round of layoff drama will inject more fear and anxiety into many of the survivors. You survived. Lucky you. The seed is now planted and it's self feeding. Like musical chairs. Do not allow yourself to think you are any different. You're not.

Do your very best for you, then for the company. They would and DO no less. It's the game. Profoundly stated in a previous post: they don't own you or owe you. Do what is best for YOU. Plan for the event that one day the record stops and you are without a chair. It happens. Take care.

I guess Mikey boy is looking to leave Twitter? He's opened a "new Instagram account" and suggested on the All Hands that he was looking at a ticktok account but that he was a "52 year old" and didn't think it was appropriate.

I am a legacy Sprint person that has been there more than 20 layoff cycles over the years. At the end of the day, the entity that is the company cares very little for you as an employee. The root of caring is just about creating profits and positive returns. You water and fertilize plants for the return you get through growth. You are a plant. When things go bad you are now a weed to be pulled.

To combat this, you have to understand that what you get out of your job and your life is totally up to you. Be all in, love your work, and love your team but do this ultimately for you.

Along this journey, keep up your skills, have an external network, build your wealth to be independent. Know that the world does not own you or owe you. Life is what you make it to be.

And you took a vaxx to keep your job and you got fired anyway. Oh the irony. At least those of us fired for not taking it still have our integrity and health. Enjoy your severance! We didn't get that either.

Anyone getting laid off is being molded into a stronger person whether they realize or not. You efforts, successes, losses are making you stronger for the future. I know it sounds like corporate speak but it’s true. Think about this- 1. Start looking for some else you like. You are forced to do that. 2. Next time a company asks you for more, think about today, is it worth it? 3. A persons true character comes out when the unexpected happens. How will you handle. Will you take some time to take that trip you have been waiting for? I know Covid limits but you know what I mean. 4. If you are that naive worker who sold your soul and bled magenta, will you do that again? 5. Will you think your not replaceable ever again. Probably not but remember, it’s just a job unless you own your own business. 6. Is it time to start your own business? 7. There are only a few that reap the benefits of a layoff decision. Mike sievert, and upper management. Bottom line catfish. 8. You are free from the bs that t Mobile has become. It will never be like it was and the new people coming in if any will never experience what you did. 9. Time to be happy again. 10. Stop reading my diatribe, go enjoy life…. It’s short!

It's not your manager who laid you off. I can tell you Managers had zero involvement in it at all. It was the directors and up. Remember the process done back in January where employees were asked to enter a bunch of information into Workday? That information (and whomever the Directors didn't like) led to the layoff lists.

Having been let go as well I can say it’s worse than I ever imagined. Why? Because I ACTUALLY believed the company wasn’t like other carriers or retailers. It’s been said a million times, but NO ONE could have actually seen the company transforming into this, an organization COMPLETELY out of sync with its employees and simply looking at $$$. Having the loyalty and the belief in EVERYTHING about the company makes it feel personal and is emotionally and mentally draining. And to see the weekly layoffs so they don’t actually have to publicly announce a large number 100% goes against “doing things the right way.” Values that once mattered are simply taglines on the bathroom doors throughout the company now. The ONLY positive is the belief and hope that all those that were affected will within a few months find something better and more appreciative of who they are and not simply the role or result they provided. Good luck everyone we’re in this together and for those still there, wishing you the best.
