Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

TOLD I WOULD BE FIRED BEFORE 60 DAYS IS UP

I received my 60 day notice, however I was just told that if my numbers don't improve in 10 days I will be let go immediately. Can they do this?

Check your state laws - in my state we are an at will state so they can let you go for anything or nothing as well. Has your performance declined? Was it already in the skids? Get your numbers up so you can get full severance.

Some interesting comments, I guess different roles have different rules?

My letter says I get to keep my severance even if I leave.

@1foy+17khzX0Y not sure if claims received the same deal, but on the non-claims side there is a line in the layoff notice that says inf you quit before the 60 days you still get the severance with a 10% reduction, might be 15% as it was my coworkers layoff letter.

We have had several on non-claims side leave within weeks of getting notices, and they only left when they did because they were able to keep nearly all of their severance.

I do know that some employees in areas given their 60 days that were on UN's for performance or behaviors/attendance were released early for "cause" or not adequately resolving what caused them to go on UN and were told they would not receive severance.

@1hpb+17khzX0Y you don't get the severance if you quit. You have to work the remaining 60 days. If you quit, they don't owe you anything.

Quit, take the severance and run.

After this and other behavior I know that I cannot lend my good name to the company. So glad I am leaving!

Yes they can do that. They still require employees to perform appropriately even when given a 60 day notice.

I’m speechless. I knew they would pull that stunt on employees. Shame on them. I hope everything works out in your favor.

What department are you in? Were you already on a UN? For performance.

You need to call the EEOC on this type of behavior. If you’re fired you will not receive any severance pay. Don’t stop doing your job
