Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

2026 Q1 reprieve or calm before the storm?

What do people think? A pause to see if the business turns around or even more cuts to come?

@3b4 maybe you should talk to your manager to understand their personal reasons for retirement. Contingent roles don’t get posted like that. Full time openings generally have a slate of candidates, even if one is a “known commodity”. Managers have to separate their personal feelings about a strategy and the drive to understand it and implement it. That’s the job. You’re working the right strategy though. If you believe your role is at risk to move external or be made redundant, keep applying for positions and stay at it. Maybe the timing will allow you to pocket a little cash on the way out, or maybe you will bank peace of mind. Either way, best of luck to you!

@3bg totes agree with you. Don’t mind the ignorant comments from self centred IT people wanting to spread rumors.

@3aw The company is a long way from broke. Look at how much cash (and other investment assets) are on the balace sheet. It is cutting costs to maintain margins as far as possible, given that drives a chunk of CEO pay. Fee margin on the revnue side is coming down at pace. It really is very simple to understand what is happening, but be sure that the firm is a very, very long way from being short of cash.; the exact opposite in fact.

@3b2 The manager of our team is "retiring" all of a sudden at the end of the month. I thought he was excellent - I saw a position posted in December and thought it seemed like what he did. Then after Xmas break bo-m he is "retiring". Maybe he got fed up or maybe he was "retired". It seems the "leaders" hired within the past 5 years now want their own people in various roles - people very open to not hiring Americans. From what I have been told any tech role posted is just for legal purposes and an H1B from Accenture or Tata has already been selected for the role - but they have to fake like they tried to hire an American first.

It is an absolute joke how many open positions have been posted out there recently especially after all of the layoffs. More unnecessary hiring and the nonsense cycle at this place continues in 2026! Get out while you can.

There is a software package used to monitor systems and various layers of the IT stack. My wife's company uses it for 100 servers and the software on them. Apparently T Rowe says the software is "too expensive" so will only use it for a couple systems, and use a cheap less comprehensive solution for everything else. My wife's company is smaller than T Rowe - it just struck me how broke this place is. It is like me at home figuring out how to pay my BGE bill. It is not a comforting feeling being somewhere that sees to be on shaky finances. Anyway - you can bet your boots there will be more layoffs. I started looking in November as IT seems to be an area they feel they can skimp and cut to the bone. The first indicator was sticking with Accenture as bad as that transition went. It will take a while to find a new job so START NOW do not wait.

@33c have you tried finding a bathroom with soap at HQ? The dispensers are constantly empty and are not refilled. It’s disgusting. I had to go into a woman’s bathroom just to wash my hands.

@330 You know, that crossed my mind as well - rations and various "cuts". This place seems so cash poor. I am surprised they still provide coffee, tea, flatware, etc. I thought for sure they would cut out the expensive recycled products and biodegradable forks. Perhaps this summer they'll only have the grass mowed once a month. I have never worked anywhere, even during recessions, that poor mouths and makes desperation moves like these folks. They should have done the new HQ in a cheaper way, or just make work from home the norm.

@2zj They already have Accenture employees working in TRP buildings. The employees they keep will report to a service delivery manager based somewhere else.

@2mk he absolutely voted for Trump thinking that he would be reigned in to some extent like his first term and that his obsession with the stock market, “market friendly policy,” and deregulation would help drive corporate growth.

@1y1 Yes - a bunch of comments here went POOF! There was at least another comment mentioning the T word. It is very telling that Management was fine with the remaining post and did not request its removal. I am surprised at some of the angry tangents people go on here.

@1mp I hope the EU does slap sanctions on the U.S., sell all the treasuries they own, and make America beg for mercy. This Mad King sh-t is ridiculous. Would love to see Rob Sharps crying when we all know he likely voted for Trump.

It’ll be interesting if Trump tries to invade Greenland and the U.S. gets slapped with EU sanctions. Oh whatever will we do without our German office with….maybe a few billion in assets and employees who don’t even know what products we have?

@1gx I feel for you. It's difficult when you get to that stage, but the penny is dropping for many folks. Not all voluntary leavers are getting packages. Some just cleared their year end bonus and quit. I know a few of those. So much has changed here. Unbelievable we got into this stae, but we are and no reason to expect that to change in the medium term. Makes me real sad.

@1g9 not just managers choosing to go. I know of some individual contributors that have absolutely had it with the company and left. There’s different reasons for it including abusive managers and a bullying culture by certain local office leadership.

@1g9 Yeah unfortunately it has finally touched our team as a manager with long tenure is now leaving. Rumors here have been that managers with long tenure are given retirement packages. While I am happy for that person, it is really a bummer as our team which has been very stable and intact for years is beginning to shrink. I promised myself I would hit the resumes and job training for my next opportunity in January, and that begins this week. I was looking at my work calendar for the year, and this is the first year that I seriously believe that one way or another (voluntarily on my own accord or forced out in favor of contractors) I won't be here come December. What a s*** way to start the year, but it is what it is. Unfortunately I am close enough to retirement, but not quite enough so need to find new work.

@1dn There is also just a small but steady number of leaders/managers choosing to go. This will carry on for a while as a lot of people have just had enough and opting to depart with no other job lined up.
