Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

More layoffs?

There was a comment in one of the post that said 3/14 was the next possible date? Anybody with any updates? Thoughts on who will be impacted if true?

50 mile radius return to office but your team is not going to be at your location. Makes sense cigna. Extra 2 hours to commute to work and back

You would be wise to get as far away from Cigna as possible. I left voluntarily after 20 years, and it was the best thing I could have done for my peace of mind.

There will be monthly layoffs the rest of the year sad to say. The only departments that are firmly safe altogether are contact center and claims due to the growing customer base, but as said elsewhere, regulatory, compliance, FTE, and especially IT are the ones most affected. It shouldn't be this way, and Cigna is doing this to avoid WARN instead of one mass amount

There is one layoff date every month for the rest of the year

There were some terminations yesterday, but I don't know if it was due to layoffs or people getting fired/quitting. Looks like some IT managers are gone as well.

In regards to Medicare lay-offs -

I would say a lot of HealthSpring employees that were acquired when bought by Cigna have remained at Cigna. So, while the move to eliminate newer employees post-acquisition isn’t uncommon for the buyer, it’s not entirely uncommon to continue to keep those employees, either.

The folks who have customer contact will most likely remain, at least for a few years. You are growing your customer base, so you need more employees to maintain the necessary level of customer contact. The same can be said for claims, etc.

However, what I would be concerned about is if I worked in areas like compliance, regulatory, etc. I think we will see some reduction in workforce in areas like HR and training, as well. You currently have two teams housed in different companies to manage the compliance part of Medicare. However, when these teams merge, you don’t need two groups of individuals to do this as the regulations are exactly the same.

I think what people need to be concerned about is - HCSC will most likely have you sign a contract upon employment that prohibits you from returning to Cigna for a specific period of time (and then some). Someone slipped during the last Town Hall and alluded to such, but Tim May tried to clean it up. Cigna will not be up front with you about this now, because it matters not to them what happens when you are handed over.

Also, we are paid more than our HCSC counterparts. We are actually paid pretty well compared to other workplaces like Humana, United, etc. After a year, I think salaries will be reduced. That’s why they keep stressing “no less for a year.” But okay, what about after that?

According the EBH town hall replay email, someone did ask about layoffs and this was said by Eva Borden:

“I cannot promise that there will not be additional job eliminations” followed by a whole lot of corporate filler words. Ugh.

Safe to say the answer is yes, at least for EBH.

"Will any fall under Medicare? Chris Derosa keeps saying that everyone under him will be moving to HCSC as we are part of the deal."

And what about all the times higher-ups told us nothing was going on and there were no layoffs coming - right before the hammer dropped? You realize that HCSC will almost certainly use you to train their employees then boot you when you do, right? This is a very typical corporate acquisition move right here. It rarely works out well for employees being acquired. You're rolling the dice sticking around to find out how it goes. Start looking for another job sooner than later.

The worst is yet to come. When the Hyderabad “Innovation” Hub is ready, major amounts of IT will be migrated there. Expect large amounts of contractors to be let go and many FTEs too.

There are more… monthly layoffs.
It’s not over. Sad to say— but the misery continues.
