Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Refusing to return to in person work

What happens if an employee refuses to go back to in person work?
Would they be fired for cause?
Would they be eligible for unemployment?

@3luj+1dOWyPcP I have a solution for you. Start your own company and work from home.

I haven't posted on this subject before but I will say this, before it seemed like it wasn't possible to work at home but now it's been proven it is. Depending on the job there really shouldn't be any reason to not be allowed to continue working at home. The stuff they selling about Collaborating is the reason to return to the office; for certain jobs there really is no collaborating so that's useless.

@1fzs+1dOWyPcP I'm sympathetic to that but how is it Centene's fault if you don't have a car and can't afford childcare. Figure it out. What did you do prior to the pandemic. I mean I'm so confused by you whiners. You worked in the office for YEARS, now you've spent less than 2 years working from home and want it to be permanent. You people are a hoot.

You can file an Accommodation request to continue working from home. Without at least attempting to do that, not a chance they will let it fly because once word gets out 1 person is doing it, everyone will want to do it. Centene likes to contradict themselves a lot. They want you to believe that they “are deeply committed to the health and safety of the staff and community”, that’s their reasoning behind the vax mandate. Well if that was really the case, they wouldn’t be sending people back in the middle of winter. They are so full of it.

Maybe because we have been working from home successfully for two full years now? It doesn’t make sense to force people into the office if they are performing the job perfectly well from home and are happier at home.

If you were hired as an in-office worker, why would you think you could keep your job if refusing to return to the office you were hired to be in?

I told my director that I have no car and have childcare issues (daycare is expensive AF) which is all true and she seemed to sympathize and told me that our office doesn't even have enough desks for everyone if they come back to office. So not sure what will happen.

With gas prices going up , the cost of food going up, rent going up. I don't want to go back either. The money I save on gas can go towards other financial needs. I don't know if you would qualify for unemployment or not. Let's hope we find another remote job before going back so we don't need unemployment. Good luck!
