Forced into MPT at Kearl- no raise

So anyone at MA6 or most were forced into MPT- I have heard some rumours of some people still getting a raise, maybe because their managers have some common sense or empathy to realize that there hasn’t been any raises for a while for wage folks. However those of us were told there wasn’t any guarantees of getting to move to other spots and stay wage so most of us felt there was no negotiation just take it or leave it. Afterwards that’s when we heard rumours of some getting raises to base moving to MPT. So my question is, being new to MPT , is it typical for the base salary to stay the same moving from wage or do people still get a bump in base salary. Feeling like a lot of us got played - I know the MPT move is definitely not for our benefit!

Also wondering do people get a raise in their first year as MPT or is it still a complete roll of the dice and political?

MPT amounts to way to suppress your wage. CL is seeing many people either get pips or bring downgraded just so there is justification of not getting a cost of living increase. Changes are also happening to the benefits in 2025. Since we have had American managers it is becoming more difficult to work for this outfit. Let's make it very clear, no matter how many times your management says were a team and a family. We are not. We are expendable and the changes that are being made are to make this company more favourable to sell.

They’re moving you to MPT so you can be low ranked whenever it suits them and then PIP’d for “low performance” and packaged off at a bargain because they don’t expect anyone to counter offer. They wouldn’t have done it otherwise. Kearl is producing oil at too high a cost and all the M6 personnel are costly. FYI when you went MPT all your extras aren’t pensionable, only wage gets all the uplift and OT included in pensionable income.

My base salary stayed about the same when I went from wage to MPT. So at the end of the year it was less than wage due to wage getting more premiums and OT (BIOT).
In your first year of MPT you won’t have to complete the EADS cycle, they’ll just rank you in the middle (3). Hard to say if you’ll get a raise. As a 3 I got about 1.15%…

As MPT you are very much at the mercy of your management, especially your direct boss. If you have good relations with your management you can get raise any time, including first year and any time after. But, you will have to be a “yes sir” person to your boss.

Otherwise, your career and your salary will be stagnant for ever in MPT.

Note: I worked in Kearl for more than a decade.

OP here- Kearl is not unionized for wage and this wasn’t our choice to move to MPT. Hoping to hear from other Kearl folks or others in IOL who have gone through similar circumstances.

So to clarify my questions- people that made the transition for wage to MPT did they get any kind of increase to base salary when they received their MPT offer letter?

Do new MPT get raises in their first year or is it still totally dependent on the PDS?

I can't agree more. You forgot one more thing, union worker off hours are true off hours. No calls, no emails, no coerced unpaid OT.

Wage Union employees get yearly salary bumps, no questions asked. They get OT (as much as they want), addition EDO’s (white Fridays), free meals if working OT, and they get job protection from their wage union.

Why move to MPT?
MPT workers get none of the above.
