I spoke to my SM about trying to get more hours and that was a definite “NO”. Each store is allotted a certain amount of “employee” hours based on sales and of course, we just aren’t cutting it. And this is not just us. Let’s face it, the whole company is losing revenue, so I’m just wondering what’s next to be cut if sales don’t increase?

Hours cut even more“
It will get worse.
Today was worse than last Saturday.
Hours cut even more.
Next weeks hours have been cut even more. When everyone wanted to stay home during the thick of the virus I had a lot of hours. How do they repay me for working ? I’ve got 8 hours next week.
I get it, there’s no business. But people who got paid to stay home are getting hours.
An uptick in ebooks during COVID because not all independent bookstores were open/BN.
Now that more people are used to ordering ebooks , at less money- many will continue to!
It’s you (not *your) who lack knowledge.

The stores were disgusting and germ-infested BEFORE the Pandemic. I would never buy a book from a store with all of those snotty Covid hands touching them!
To the person who keeps saying that ebooks will be the downfall-your lack knowledge. Physical books have continued to outsell ebooks in the past 6+ years. An uptick in ebooks during COVID because not all independent bookstores were open/BN.
This week is worst than the last, I'm bored at work it is so slow.
How do they afford to keep the stores open? How do they pay the rent?
Where are all the decent jobs? I need to find one.
All NON-UNION Corporations S—, let's face it!
Amazon will give you enough hours, so long as you can’t receive benefits.
Then they will take your 20 hours and make you do over 40 hours of work.
Been there, done that.
Barnes has nowhere to go but down.
With Downloaded ebooks, bookstores will go the way of the record store.
Go apply to a supermarket, Whole Foods or Amazon- they're always busy.
