Holy SH-T!!!
My entire department was cut today and everyone was laid off.
I’m still in shock. I can’t believe GW runs a business like this.

Sadly Gainwell really only owes anyone a maximum of three years severance pay.
Expecting more really makes no logical sense.
Gainwell has only existed for three years. Expecting any severance for longer than that would be naive. They owe you nothing beyond three years worth of severance
“from what I’ve read Gainwell’s severance policy is meager, in comparison.”
This is true. However, it is better than nothing.. for those who have stuck it out for years, (through layoffs, skeleton crews, salary freezes, etc.).. a meager severance could be better than no severance
One lesson I’ve learned: Before accepting a job at the next company, inquire about the severance policy. While I would agree that layoffs are much more prevalent now in the IT industry, from what I’ve read Gainwell’s severance policy is meager, in comparison.
"Why would you want to work for a trash company? A company that treats you as a number."
Are you brand new to Corporate America? I don't care how employee-centric a company says it is, at the end of the day it is about profit. I honestly couldn't point to one major company in Corporate America that hasn't done mass layoffs or buyouts in the last year or so.
I agree it su-ks to be in fear for your job daily but you have to prioritize your wellbeing and career. If it's that miserable in your current company then look for new opportunities but complaining about how one company acts when 95% of all companies in Corporate America play the same game is pointless.
Who cares if Gainwell is a good company?
Wow that’s a pretty stupid question. We all should care. Gainwell is a trash company. It is easy to determine that based on their actions. Why would you want to work for a trash company? A company that treats you as a number. A company that thinks you have zero value. A company that would dump you in a second to replace you with a warm body that costs less. A place that lays off constantly and you have to be in fear of that daily. Yeah we should all care.
True about Amazon; they are currently requiring badging into shared office work areas minimum of 3x week.
Who cares whether/not Gainwell is a good company? If it’s working for you, great. Always keep your skills current (retrain yourself and practice interviewing; plenty of online resources out there to do this).
For legacy EDS employees, an WFR could actually be a good thing if you’re looking at retirement anyways. There is currently a severance being offered (max. 12 years; 1 week per year).
Any company is going cut employees and costs when numbers tank; getting mad at the employer is a waste of your energy. Your mutual professional relationship with them works until it doesn’t (for them and you).
Whoever mentioned Amazon was a good place to work is sorely mistaken. They had massive layoffs of 15k+ employees recently. Amazon was a meat grinder, and they treated their employees as fully expendable like most companies seem to do. Gainwell isn't the most amazing place to work but don't always assume the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
In regards to people mentioning PTO and benefits have been reduced I guess they are subject to different rules than I am. My benefits got cheaper for next year and the only thing that changed for PTO was that if you take 15 days starting on day 16 it requires an additional level of approval and all of my time since then has still been approved with no issues. So it's still no Min/Max as it has been for 3 years. I honestly don't think I could take 10+ weeks off a year and be successful in my job but as long as your manager and their manager approve that much then you can.
All of you ex HMS and EDS employees need to stop living in the past.
It’s like a 40 year old trying to relive high school.
It’s Gainwell now. And it su-ks.
I hear Google is a good place to work.
I hear Amazon is a good place to work.
Both are not Gainwell Technologies.
HMS and EDS don’t exist.
You dont work for them.
You work for a company called Gainwell Technologies. It’s been in existence for three years.
It is not a good place to work.
Once upon a time, HMS was a great place to work.
Once upon a time EDS was a great place to work
Career Excellence series from Gainwell Technologies.
Wow. What are they going to do? Teach us what not to do?
It is alarmingly obvious that the leaders at Gainwell have no idea how to run a company.
For the love of god don’t waste your time on this education offered by Gainwell. What a joke.
Yeah it has always been the case.
Gainwell has existed for three years.
All three years have had mass layoffs and constant restructuring.
Yep it’s always been the case for Gainwell Technologies.
I do not work there but did in the past. One department was in the human resources space around change/org management. The whole team was let go. Legacy employees and such with 15+ years. I think as high as Sr Director down. Sad as this wasn't always the case.
Gainwell definitely has class. Layoffs right before the holidays.
Way to class it up Gainwell.
Really @1efh+1pGXsEWy
That’s assuming that the company is making a good decision by eliminating their department. And if we look at history they haven’t made many good decisions. They pretty much have made zero good decisions.
So is this going to be an every week occurrence then?
sure what was ur department.. if everyone then clearly useless
I can think of a few more forward thinkers that need to be gone.
I was let go in the eliminated department. The letter I had to sign is really restrictive. I don’t want to risk losing my meager severance. I need it to survive until I find something else. I am sure everyone signed the same agreement.
I understand that you want to know. But we have to be careful and consider our own well being before satisfying someone’s curiosity.
Bruce Voelker, forward thinker … gone.
Those receiving severance must be careful posting.
Which department? If the entire dept got let go, then it includes the OP. Just tell us because you've got nothing to lose now. I work on an existing state Medicaid account and we've only list one person in the past month. I'm not saying you're lying, but I'm not sure.
I think the struggle that some of the GW employees are having is just admitting that the company you work for is a bad company.
I struggled with that and defended them over and over because that was my employer.
But I have come to realize that the data doesn’t lie. They are a terrible place to work and a terrible company. Their history proves it. Constant layoffs and restructuring. They blew all of the investment money and are on the verge of goi g bankrupt. The leaders treat the employees like a number. Zero communication about layoffs. They cut benefits. Cut PTO. They are pushing offshoring to take away US jobs.
That is a recipe for a terrible company. No defending that. The culture and morale has plummeted. We will be lucky if some government entity doesn’t step in and put the Kaibosh on this madness.
Just look at the data in front of you. This isn’t a religion you dont have to have faith. All signs point to a bad company. The old saying of “if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck. Then it must be a duck.” Definitely applies here.
I am seriously hunting for a new job. Interviewing regularly. You should all do the same.
I’m a middle manager and I can see the writing on the wall.
Three years in a row. And that is the entire existence of the company.
Definitely a trend and a problem.
Definitely shows that it is not a good place to work. Not day to day and not long term.
Definitely not a good place to work.
I would argue that this company does have a track record of layoffs. Gainwell has only existed for three years. Each of those three years there have been mass layoffs toward the end of the calendar year.
There has been constant restructuring and turmoil from the top down. Cash reserves have been depleted to the verge of bankruptcy.
CEO didn’t even last two years.
Initiatives continue to change. Most have failed costing the company millions.
The latest is to grow offshore employees and shrink US employees. This will drive more layoffs.
This is not a good place to work. I’m not into swindling states out of their money by promising something we can’t deliver. Or selling them an outdated and useless MMIS system. Holding them to the contract that GW won’t deliver on.
Oh I would argue that Gainwell has a big history of mass layoffs and unethical business practices. The proof is right in front of us. It’s black and white and cannot be denied.
The first step to a problem is admitting that you have a problem.
I am not the original poster but I can confirm there have been 3 mass layoffs within the past year. The first one was because of an overhiring of Project Managers and Business Analysts as a directive of the CEO (who has since been ousted).
Another was due to mismanagement of resources and time for several programs that ended up being very expensive and did not make money for the company. This was around the time of the first reorganization structure earlier in 2023-ish.
There was a new mass layoff of workers in November 2023 based on performance scores being 3/5 or less. These were people who had worked at the company for many years in some cases.
Almost all of the new program rollouts create software that automates employee tasks or monitors employee time utilization through management applications or chat bots. The goal is to cut down the need for paid labor as much as possible to recoup revenue from failed project initiatives and to improve shareholder value.
The company doesn't actually have a poor track record of this behavior, but in recent years (probably due to acquisitions and rebranding) this has become a regular concern.
It is very unfortunate because on a day to day basis this is an excellent place to work.
Some of these vague posts could be from past employee's just trying to stress everyone out so don't believe what you read on the internet.
What areas are affected. I’ve heard zero rumblings about anything. I’m so sorry for all those affected yet again. This is terrible.
How does this place retain any employees?
Why wait? Start looking for a new better opportunity. Get some interviewing practice. There’s plenty of good online prep courses out there. You owe it to yourself.
I’m not willing to just sit and wait. I want to have a good xmas for my family. Not knowing makes me want to just sit and not buy anything for the holiday. That’s not fair to me or my family.
I’m not in shock. I’m pi---d off. This company and their lack of communication is a joke. They owe it to the employees to communicate the plan about layoffs. Forcing them to just sit and wait while not knowing anything is crazy.
I was also let go today.
I luckily have been on the hunt for a job for a while. I’m in the final stages of two job interviews so I am hopeful I won’t be out of work long.
People should be looking and move on.
Which department OP?
The only thing that can save the employee is bankruptcy and/or a sale.
This is going to continue for several months. Maybe even a year or more.
As jobs are traded for offshoring - layoffs will continue. We better get used to it.
In India 90 days notice is standard. Not two weeks notice like the USA. So this is going to draw out for over a year or more just from the notice issue. Layoffs are here to stay.
