Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Never ending layoffs

Word came down that those in the EG-BBV group (Arroyo > Welday > Dillard) will hear about layoffs by the end of the month, but possibly as early as 7/17

No word on size or numbers. But one thing to consider is that this group has been marked as dedicated to supporting video (HBO Max, DIRECTV, ATTTV) so those currently doing mobility are probably a more likely target than others.

But hey, this is T. They do layoffs much like the Nazis did their V2 attacks on London — totally random in terms of target but no less devastating in terms of impact.

Wow, I know I can figure out who some of the people here are making comments, its going to be simple, I will lookup certain words in the dictionary and see your pictures, I have choosen not to share those words because they add no value. The company offers training that is free (I admit I have not taken advantage of Nanodegrees, but I do other training) and you bash them for it. You could learn a completely new skill like working with big data and data analytic for free and instead you spend your time bashing the company. You say that no other employer is going to care if you got these Nanodegrees. What possible employers are going to care about is relevant skills and hiring someone who has some level of interest in self improvement and learning knew technologies. The company is also providing free Azure training and certification, do you think having that training, skills and certification is going to help you after T? If people spent less time complaining about what they don't have and blaming others for why they are not happy and spent that time trying to improve themselves they could go far. I imagine all things being equal and the only differentiator between two candidates is one took the initiative to improve their skills the employer is going with that one.

@1foe - no one cares who paid for it. The point you keep missing is that employers like to see you take an interest in something/anything and work on improving yourself. Of course no one is going to hire you because you got a beginner on-line certificate. No one here is that naive

Keep drinking the Kool Aid and complete your Nanodegrees!! I wouldn't hire you because you have a Nanodegree paid for by AT&T. Employers are also wondering why you were surplussed by AT&T. If you are as good as you say, why were you let go by AT&T? Hmmm, makes you wonder doesn't it.

@1ecz - a large portion of ALL degrees are useless after getting in the door, as the person with a Masters in French linguistics working for over a decade as an (English) Instructional Designer will tell you. (Not me btw).
While a ‘Nanodegree’ is really just a certificate, it still shows self improvement to T and other employers. Don’t wait for ‘them’ to bring it up in an interview, you bring it up. I view it as just a way to get a little experience in with a new or stale skill where you have an interest. Definitely not going to make you an expert, but if I had the time I would do another one.
So much of my job at the moment consists of mundane/compliance things and meetings which cannot be put on my resume more than once... so anything I can add there will only be beneficial to me.

@1myw Nanodegrees are useless outside of AT&T. After being surplussed, not one interview I had did they ask about the AT&T Nanodegree. Those employers interviewing could care less about Nanodegress. It all comes down to EXPERIENCE if you want to land another job outside of AT&T (what do you know and how long have you been doing it).

If only I had a dime for all the clueless making comments about Nanodegrees, as if the company ever said you were required to do them. Do you even know what they are?

Allow me to educate you. Nanodegrees are an industry learning vehicle provided by Udacity. They are in no way, shape, or form unique to AT&T nor have you ever been told that you were required to do them. They cost anywhere from $500-$2000 each and AT&T will pay for them if you want to get off your lazy azz and actually learn something. It’s one avenue for self-development just like tuition reimbursement and a whole host of other learning options available to you, wait for it, FOR FREE.

Now we can argue the value of them, and if Udacity as an educator is what it once was, but that’s neither here nor there. The point is that they are FREE to those that want to self-develop. Additionally, you’ve never been told that if you do a Nanodegree or any other company-paid training, that you’d be protected from a surplus, so just stop it. If you actually believed that then you’re a fool, plain and simple.

so I glad I left when they started all all the nano degree c-ap. I kept my self up to date on my own and didn't need att do anything for me or put up with their brainwashing.

I knew all that nano degree c-ap was nothing but a smoke screen and wouldn't matter what you accomplished.

good luck people and remember don't listen the globalist every country has a right to it's own sovereignty and people like rand and stank think they know what is best for you don't fall for it be your own judge.

“...dedicated to supporting video”.

Lol. Hmmm, is mobility generating revenue, or is it video? I’d say the video folks are gone!

The 17th makes sense if they want everyone off the rolls by the end of the month.

Oh, and OP ... don't pay attention to the racist trolls. They're like pinworms or herpes, you never get rid of their irritation.
