Why would he? In a few years, he'll have more satellites in orbit than the company has cell towers. He's already threatened to build an alternative to apple and android ecosystems and probably will go through with it.

@17f There is something very wrong with you boy. My guess is that it will catch up with you before you catch up with it. Better get back to taking those meds/

It would be a half a trillion dollar deal since Vz knew this could happen and purposely doesn't pay down the mountains of debt because of it.

I sure hope he doesn’t. I make an outstanding salary but have absolutely zero skills. I don’t really want to flip burgers for a living.

Maybe, if he doesn't buy, we DOGE a bullet?

Elon could use VZ for his RoboTaxis and RoboCars, which would be an 'actual profitable' use for 5G. - @ek
His fleet of Robo-Linemen humanoids can't be far off.

Finance keeps reinventing the same problem. First FP&A, then shadow finance, now “FP&A analytics.” Each layer promises better insight, but in practice it just duplicates work and protects turf. Every group builds its own version of the truth, and leadership calls it progress.

The reality is predictable: armies of analysts grinding out endless decks, projects slowed down by weeks over a single headcount transfer, and a finance function known more for theater than execution. These duplications aren’t mistakes — they’re how VPs justify headcount, titles, and budgets.

Drop someone like Elon into that model and the outcome would be immediate: flatten the structure, eliminate the shadow layers, and collapse analytics into one accountable line. Harsh, yes, but less harsh than letting the waste compound year after year.

Until that reset happens, finance leadership will keep creating new names for the same dysfunction. Call it FP&A, shadow finance, or analytics — the model doesn’t change. Chaos stays the operating system.

@ep BS! He would show them how to work 'effectively' for the customer and end up making more money than they were making. We just have cr-ppy management!

Elon hasn’t said he’s buying Verizon — the only thing he mentioned was that it’s “not out of the question.” That came right after SpaceX dropped $17B on EchoStar spectrum to build out Starlink’s direct-to-cell service. Add in Verizon’s big FAA contract that Musk has been criticizing, and that’s why people are buzzing about it.

If he ever did make a move, you can bet the first thing he’d do is clean house at the top. Musk doesn’t keep bloated exec teams around. And wireline? That would be gone. He’s after the spectrum, towers, and wireless customers — not the landline side that’s been dragging Verizon down for years.

Right now it’s just talk, but if it ever happened, Verizon would look completely different under Musk.

No work life balance under Elon.

He would buy Boost Mobile from Echostar first. He could get it much cheaper and they are already pretty far along building their own network. And purchasing Boost would also give him a lot more spectrum.

It would be hilarious what Elon would do to finance leadership that allowed overlapping teams to exist for years. Shadow finance, finance, fpas which also has many layers. VPs that have their teams doing 200 page decks and wasting time on transfers for even just 1 headcount. What chaos and waste!

Elon Musk buying VZ is a perfect fit. Robotaxi is the next big thing.

I sure hope not because then we are all sc--wed as employees. Look what he did to X, got rid of the majority of the employees. Reading that article gives me goosebumps as Musk didn't deny it.
