Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Question about 50 mile Requirement

Good evening, it seems all Elevance internal positions now state that you must reside within 50 miles of a PulsePoint office. With some office locations downsizing and/or not having desk space, what happens if an internal candidate tries to apply for a new position at Elevance?

Would they have to move to be within 50 miles of an Elevance office if their nearest office no longer allows you to come in?

Thanks in advance for your insight!

It's the company's back handed way of getting people to quit on their own so they don't have to lay them off and pay severance. Plain and simple.

My home office closed during Covid leaving us 53 miles from nearest office which seems to be sales/financial mostly way off from most of our Medicare backgrounds however if u apply for a job not at the new office location you get an auto denial seems to be another way to push people out the door I was also a remote employee prior to Covid

Its all a lie I tell ya! I live across the street from the Pluse Point and I got Laided off. I watch a few employees go in every morning and walk back out 5 minutes later.

@2aeg+ So when the COVID funding expires or runs out, those of us originally hired to work remote 100% of the time will be able to return to wfh 100%? Is that why they are not spending a lot of money on additional office rental space for more cubicles? At my PulsePoint, they only have seating for 25% of the total number of employees assigned to that location. Personally, I am getting tired of being lied to by management....

Keep it civil, people. There's no need to be flippant.

@2pun+1uepJC2y Then walk in and quit today. Simple enough.

@2pvb
In Workday, search PulsePoints. I don’t remember the name of the specific link, but there’s a link that has each PP listed and if you go into each, it will state whether it’s a “general” PP or restricted.

I don't think I want to work for a company with a hidden agenda. What else are they hiding?

I am a Director and have over 20 associates reporting to me. All this is a hidden agenda of corporate covid funding to meet a specific metric. Once that is met it will be back to pre covid. Stay put. No one will get laid off due to 50 mile radius.

I know two people who are fully remote and just go promoted. The company is lying to you.

How do we find out the pulsepoints that are restricted?

I have this same question (I think). The only pulse point within 50 miles of me is “restricted”. Does that mean I meet the 50 mile requirement if I want to change positions, or no?

It's true and par for the course. Our Plan President just tells us to 'swipe that badge" that keeps her off of the reports. As a Director I have told my team the same.
I have literally driven to the job swiped in went to the bathroom and left to remain in compliance. The reports in Workday only capture that you swipe in, no times are noted. Technically you meet the requirements and unless you move within 50 miles of a PulsePoint you will not get hired/promoted without an exception, and those are scrutinized at the C Suite level.

Not true - my team has 3 people completely remote and not riffed. Its a stupid rule. ALbert Einstein could apply but if he lived 51 miles away...they don't implement across the company I know for a fact.

It’s just a way to trim down the employee force, in a backhanded way.

@Callthetoothfairy

Why aren’t managers transparent about that? I’ve asked that specific question. Which is also infuriating since I was hired as a WFH employee. They realize that the company is paying people to commute just to swipe the badge. Not all stay in the office.

As usual, this company does a half-assed job on an implementation. Either that or they are planning to offshore enough jobs to where eventually they won't have many American workers left.

I saw this question appear the Monday after the most recent RIF and its a joke. Our office went from multiple floors in a building to half a single floor and even then an entire area is restricted for certain teams on the app so you cant book desk in that area. Some folks are over here working in the kitchen/breakroom, the think rooms with the cubicles and bench tables are also always packed with folks. If you demand people come in the least they can do is have enough space.

Yes. Anyone new has to align. Anyone already in cannot take a position (promotion or lateral) without complying. There can be exceptions filed at the VP level. But good luck getting that done without pulling teeth.
