Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Does anyone now or in the past worked at progressive?

I'm pretty much ready to start job hunting even though I'm still at allstate because Allstate is being run into the ground. Has anyone went to progressive or worked for progressive, if so what's it like?

Allstate = progressively becoming Progressive

I left Progressive 27 years ago and took a 25% pay cut to come to Allstate. Most of that cut was the loss of "Gainshare" yearly bonus. It was refreshing coming to Allstate back then. Especially seeing the tenure placards we used to place on our cubicles. People were really happy back then and we enjoyed our jobs and were proud to work here. We had annual kick-offs where we would travel to another state, something we didn't do at Progressive. All of it changed with TW and GS. :(

Who's to say that Progressive isn't the company to buy Allstate? Roll up both into one big ball of corporate f××kery and grab your popcorn. I might just come back to be a part of that hot mess.

@1chu+1960SMhb- You are getting paid more, so it already is different than it was for you at Allstate. I think the main difference between Allstate and Progressive is that Allstate is consolidating and outsourcing and giving signs that they are making moves to sell the company in a few years. So in short if you can get laid off and severance and then go to progressive that would be choice, if you can’t go that route then getting out of Allstate now would’ be the wise move since all these posters on here claiming progressive is so bad will be going right back there after they get laid off from Allstate due to closures and mergers with whoever purchases it.

I left Allstate in September and am currently at Progressive. More pay but I don’t expect it to be different than Allstate honestly.

Again...there’s no perfect job. You do what’s in best interest. You don’t need this forum to make your decision. I think you know what you want truly.

If you are from NE Ohio and have worked in insurance for more than a few years then you likely went from one of these cesspool to another.

I worked at Progressive and left because I couldn't take their B.S. anymore and came to Allstate only to be only involved in the same type if B.S. but laid off 2 years later. It is all the same at both. No need to get into the details because you already know.

My suggestion....if you want to remain in insurance and need a sooner rather than later replacement to feed your kids and provide health coverage and you don't mind the same environment then Progressive is probably a safe bet. They are used to taking on Allstate's throw aways. If you have the luxury to wait a little with some money saved up then the better option is to leave the insurance industry all together. Start anew. There is no guarantee that it would be any better but a fresh start in a new industry seems better in terms of potential outlook in my opinion.

Listen....it’s up to you...I left Allstate to go progressive because of uncertainty with the company direction. A job is not easy...the grass is not greener on the other side, but you do what in the interest of yourself and your family.

I know some posters on the forum are going to discourage you from leaving even when they are implying they aren’t! However if you have doubt with your standing with the company then leave!

The fire or the frying pan... insurance is all the same.

I personally find my time at Allstate as bad as it has been better than what I left Progressive for 3 years ago doing the same exact job.

Progressive is no better. I was there for a bit and it was a grinder.

I came to Allstate a little over 2 years ago from Progressive. At that time I left Progressive for refuge from the same two faced lying leadership, unreasonable work volumes, and unattainable metrics. I even took a pay cut leaving Progressive because I was that unhappy and was told by Allstaters that is was not that way here. I was not even out if the home that was our training that I made a mistake. Same exact B.S. at Allstate that I was trying to get out of at Progressive except now less money and as bad I would say equally from what I left. I give Allstate the nod slightly on benefits but not at the lesser pay for same drama and headache level. It does seem that Progressive gas a better, more modern vision and much more competent at the top than Wilson and Shapiro. I personally am not considering a return to Progressive at all for the same reasons that I am now trying to get out of Allstate. I am all for suggesting to get out of Allstate but Progressive is not the solution. Tenured folks might as well stay at Allstate and hope layoffs and severance works itself out rather than jump into another sh**show at Progressive.
