Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Seagates inaction to the Coronavirus.

How is your plants management handling the issue of the coronavirus?
Is it like Seagate Londonderry? Management putting some employees lives at risk.Product more important than the health and safety of some employees and their families.People who are not medically qualified making decisions on whether an employee is safe enough to be in the building and working with other people.Profit before people.

At this point. there are hundreds of thousands of factory workers who would give anything to go back to work in a similar controlled environment. Seagate was ahead of the curve on these strategies and finally other companies are figuring it out.

As an employee on shift at the facility. I can safely say that Seagate has been at the forefront of social distancing and its measures from the offset.

I for one feel safe at my work and I am happy going there. Management are doing as best they can to ensure rules are followed. Enough with the negative people.... I guess you get them everywhere.

OFTisajoke Is a joke. The grammar indicates a non-Irish person. Either it’s someone in NRM or Asia trying to create turmoil in Springtown, or an “Irishman” trying to obfuscate by sounding Asian. There is also the possibility that it’s an uneducated parasite 🦠

seagate have implemented measures in springtown but I fear its too late as they reacted to slowly.Staff now feel in danger as they have no alternative but to work as it will be frowned upon to take pandemic leave or sick as it will be remembered .The company at this stage should only be running with a skeleton shift to keep critical tools running seems management have no plan and are running blind unfortunately the workforce on site are going to suffer consequences of managements hesitation to act .Zero empathy and lack of communication big problem people are afraid and all management care about is moves

Just remember that you do not matter to Seagate Springtown management, not one iota.Never believe that you matter. Even If you die after getting the virus whilst working in seagate ,you or your death wont matter. You will only be seen as collateral damage.Seagate Springtown are playing by their rules and their rules only. The jobsworths running seagate see profit as more important than their own families so just imagine how unimportant they see you and your families.

People are not social distancing within the clean room.Workers delivering work are not keeping 2 metres away or even giving people a chance to move out of the way.Workers and lead operators sitting next to each other chatting within a couple of feet.Twice in one 12 hour shift I found someone elses suit and boots where mine should be hanging up.Witnessed someone remove their mask within the clean room to sneeze right next to me.Seems like Management are turning a blind eye once you enter the Fab.Out of sight out of mind.
No wonder people are worried...

Some workers in the U.S. are not willing to risk their lives in unsafe coronavirus working conditions. They want safer working conditions and hazardous duty pay. Seagate management should protect factory workers.

Seagate Spring Town management should be ashamed every care home and home care staff have no PPE. Why is the load that is being hoarded on site not shared in the community around this site.
As for site car park rammed cars parked 12 inches apart unsafe.
Gowning rooms to both clean rooms which you enter and exit 8 times in 12hr shift (work it out) impossible to keep distance suit hangers are 2 inches apart in rows.
Working on shift now 6 confirmed cases on site one on our shift.
Every one is scared staffing should be cut to very small crew.
Forget about the flowers their shut.

Seagate Springtown have a DUTY OF CARE by law to protect every employee..( Even Operators). So can every individual who is forced to come to work have a letter othat the company can Gurantee their safety, seems all of a sudden management have become Medical experts, when it's impossible to social distance from other Employees. Operators only Employees who aren't listed as Key contributors.... WHO'S THE KEY CEONTRIBUTORS TO THE BUSINESS NOW

Agree with last poster. Its all about profit margin.Nothing else matters especially the wellbeing of clean room workers.Seagate will have blood on their hands.High wages?? That's a joke.Paid low wages for years, now pay just enough to keep people there.Manager/director/HR your post proves that you have never been in a cleanroom. The health and safety of clean room employees is bottom of the list of management priorities and this coronavirus just proves it.

As you say yourself. Its all about moves profit margin and targets. The clean room masks do nothing to prevent the disease from spreading. They are not the correct type to block viruses. And the virus is not airbourne so air circulation does not help. I bet you don't work in the clean room. Highly paid wages lol. They pay just enough to keep you there. They are located in an unemplyment black spot, any wages above the minimum wage is highly paid. You sound like a company man to me, maybe a director. Come and work in the clean room for 12 hrs if you think it is so safe. During the shift change and people getting gowned up between breaks the 2 metre distance can't be adhered to, there simply isn't enough room in the gowning area. If seagate really cared about its employees it would shut for a month. Nobody at risk. The only place I go out to is now my work. Tell me, if I pick up the virus in seagate and I die would seagate be liable as they easily have closed the doors. OUR FUTURE TOGETHER MY ARSE. just a load BS.

Seagate propaganda sh1te.I work in Seagate Springtown Derry and that is the type of reply I would expect .Mentioning profits just proves what the first post was saying. To management only some employees safety is important. To the management operaters are not important. They are dispenable. Whoever are the highly paid jobs are mostly now working from home. The lowly paid jobs are being done by employees who have no choice but to go into work. The thermal imaging is not mandatory so it will not stop someone with the virus going on site.Employees with a high temperature have been told to go into work .Our future together is a failure, as will be shown in the near future.Onto the profit share..more propaganda,a paltry 34hrs in last quarter. We all know the next profit it share will be worse ,if any at all.Treat operators with even a little respect by not putting them or their families in any danger.Do the right thing.

: @1cen+14axrxhu ..So Seagate Springtown is still making employees come into work in dangerous times? OP was correct in "profit before people".In an area were there are numbers of people in constant contact there is very high risk that the virus will be easily passed on.Ask an expert.Drive heads are not essential, if something takes four months to make, it cant be essential .People will be more at risk to the virus at seagate than they would be at home with their families.

This is eventually going to hit Seagate hard as factories will be shutdown for some time. No factories, no product, no revenue.

Seagate Springtown have gone well above and beyond what has been required of us.Anyone whose job could be done from home have been allowed to work from home with no requirement to come onto site. Each employee whose roll involves to be in our factory have been given thermometers, auto temperature checks on site entry and the implementation of the two meter isolating recommendations on site, in canteens etc and staggered shifts ends.In the clean rooms is the safest place you can be fully gowned and air circulated, exchanged and filtered.Recording head manufacture must continue as we supply our downstream factories who have never missed a day’s manufacturing targets despite being located in world wide regions effected by the virus.Remember we are a business who needs to keep making adequate profits to reinvest in our factory going forward with expansion plans in the pipe line for STST .We have made a great job maintaining our moves, maintaining our profit margins, keeping our projected targets and on target to meet excellent individual workers profit sharing end Q4 all of which can only be achieved by production personnel turning up for work every day.At this stage we plan and hope that our site can continue to run full production despite the virus with day staff working from home and we can maintain the 1500 highly paid jobs in our locality. The employees safety is number one and our future together is going to be very prosperous for all of us going forward as it has been for the past 25 years If you have any issues with how the virus is being dealt with at STST please raise it with you manager, in the mean time we are hoping on business as normal on the factory floor please
