Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Is there an actual reason behind layoffs?

I’m seriously asking. I haven’t heard of any strategy that would require reorg/layoffs of this size. Is it company performance? If so, what are the justifications for such LR and how do they see that it will improve company performance? Is there a strategy for layoffs themselves? I’m posing all those questions because I would like to hear your thoughts. My impression is that it’s about nothing else but most simplistic wholesale cost-cutting with no attention to detail just so there is more money left for the top, and we are easy pickings. As simple as that.

You heard it here first! They are going to start selling pieces of the business and need to right size now.

@1bnl+1tTQUVf9 - the account was lost, I think anything your doing would be for cases that become retroactive 1/1/25, and anything that started in 2024.

“What do you mean loss of CALPERs? We’re doing system build outs for CALPERs for 01/01/2025.

Strategy is offshore/outsourcing. This is a short term strategy the ELT is engaging in to squeeze as much money out of the company as possible, at which time they will retire or move on. All this is do e at the expense of employees and members. But they do not care because they will leave before so many accounts leave that their shoddy strategy is exposed. Aor of accounts have multi-year contracts so it takes time for the true effects of this plan to be out in the open.

It is surprising how capitalists have adopted strategies of suppressing in communication and transparency to an extent that would make put Soviet Propagandists to shame

Read the trade press; CALPERs put out a press release. "The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has named Blue Shield of California as the only health plan in its preferred provider organization. CalPERS’s previous carrier for two decades was Anthem Blue Cross." https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/payers/california-employee-retirement-system-flips-blue-shield-ca-ppo-coverage

Has anyone in leadership EVER, and I do mean ever, considered that we're spending too much money on outside consultants. We literally take marching orders from Deliotte and McKinsey. That's who runs the company. They have to show reason for their $500 an hour. The reason is generally that associates aren't needed and then they roll off as soon as their disasters are implemented. And then oh no, we have to hire them again, because we're in trouble again. It's almost like they're giving us short term strategies to guarantee we'll have to keep bringing them back. STOP LETTING CONSULTANTS RUN THE COMPANY. Especially the one in SLT. The only people consultants want to succeed are themselves. Period.

Line must go up. It's always about the stock price.

It always comes down to reducing admin costs, and cutting everyone's budget to accomplish it.

Goal is cheapest labor possible. Use firms like McKinsey to press across industries to see what you can get away with. Then adjust accordingly. Make no mistake this is an effort to get workers in line and move the line of what’s acceptable.

This has been discussed in the town halls. Seriously? There is not just 1 reason there are multiple reasons for the various lines of business. You act like this is a mom and pop shop and everything must make sense to you. EH is a publicly traded company. There is no job security.

(1) Shift to outsourcing (2) shift to AI -- supposedly (3) loss of CALPERs (4) loss of other commercial accounts (5) loss of Medicaid members due to redetermination (6) loss of Medicaid accounts (7) loss of Medicare Star ratings (8) change in Medicare reimbursement (9) increased health expenses in the Med Adv population (10) Executive leaders who prioritize the stock price far above employee well-being, and a willingness to drive employee morale into the ground. There might be other reasons but that is a good enough Top 10.
