Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Management stresses out good employees as Barnes & Noble prepares to close for good!

You've probably been reading or hearing about several stores already planning to close, tempers are flaring and managements is on edge. Many employees have already quit given the daily unnecessary pressure they've been put under. If you haven't learned this by now, read carefully- NEVER trust management, they are not your friends, many have and many have been later fired or forced out. You are considered a temporary worker in this company, unless you've already made it to Store Manager level. Even then, you better be kissing your RM's a-s and do it well, or you too will be booted out.

It's true, many stores are having trouble meeting payroll. If you aren't hearing your store manager bragging about sales, you should be looking for a new job- a year ago!
This company is doing their best to make everything look all sunshine and rainbows. Hey, we've even got a brand new n–k!!! But just how well are those member cards selling? Not very well, and corporate is not happy about it. Those customers (we call them suckers) are dying off or have already turned to Amazon for their reading.

If you think this company can turn around, you are in a dream state. It's not happening. Unless this company can merge with a retail company that still does well, say, a TJ Maxx or large discount store and of course drop their ridiculous prices (they can't) then you'll be seeing the doors closed and locked for good and very soon.

Be smart employees, do your research and find a GOOD company with SMART people running it, who appreciates good workers, and get out of B&N ASAP.

Don’t know what your talking about. The ex employees from my store are all in new jobs and much happier.
It’s YOU that sounds jealous and bitter.

Obviously they know that working at a failing company is the best they can do and are putting down those who can do better.

Delusional former employees that remain unemployed and can't
move on to that next stage of grief?

Jealous of what?

Delusional former employees that remain unemployed and can't
move on to that next stage of grief?

Get over yourselves, and your fantasy that a book store was thriving
due to your easily replaceable skill set.

You were never that special.
None of us are.

It's RETAIL.

The formers love to bloat their importance & thumb down anything that dares
to damage their fantasy world of Barnes & Noble shuttering its doors, next week.

It's like reading the posts of disgruntled teenagers.

not all receiving managers were fired. if your store made over a certain amount in a year you kept some of the staff other stores let go. mostly happened at superstores, extremely high volume mall stores. there are very few left but they exist.

So which stores are planning to close since you seem to know which ones?

Sales are modest at my store but management has been very pushy and nasty since January, it has nothing to do with the bookselllers it’s management and their issues they just tend to act like big shots and take it out on the booksellers, most have never worked anywhere else and are terrified of their store closing.

Hey Loser, who doesn't know what a capital letter is, your writing skills are atrocious and your thoughts are random. Typical new hire for B&N.

They can’t spell. Can’t alphabetize.
Pathetic.
But, that’s what BN wants representing them.

I'm sorry the company let you guys go in 2018 but there are still many people working there who work very hard (even some receiving managers)

They have receiving managers again after firing all of them ?

really no point posting here because everything gets downvoted if it isn't "down with bn down with daunt" but our store is doing ok. a few others in our area are making money, at least on weekends. it depends where you are. stores are going to close. that's inevitable. we're talking about retail. also, corporate doesn't care about member cards and wants to get rid of the membership altogether. you seem to be forgetting that "corporate" in this case is a multi-billion dollar hedge fund with extremely deep pockets who consider bn an investment that they aren't going to just flip after the worst year in retail history. I'm sorry the company let you guys go in 2018 but there are still many people working there who work very hard (even some receiving managers). so please try to be consistent in your posts because a lot of the s▯▯t I see here is incoherent.

This is on the money. I don't know how we're paying the rent for our store. I'm sure we'll be closing soon too,

Yeah but how are your sales? Give us numbers.
We get a lot of people in our store but they're not buying much at all. As soon as I find something good, I'm out of here.

Our business has bounced back quite a bit post Christmas.

People are coming out, vaccinated or not.

We are now hiring more people.

I expected a huge drop off or closing, but things are going back to normal.
