Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

There are still good managers at Honeywell

I'm just wondering how many. I see a lot of people complaining about their managers - and I'm not doubting it's very much deserved - and I keep thanking my lucky stars that I'm one of the seemingly few who still have good ones. He is probably what makes my work here bearable currently - I admire all of you who deal with all the cr-p we have to deal with on daily basis and with an abusive/toxic/incompetent manager. I'm not sure I could do that.

There are good managers. There are also people who should never have authority or power over another. It is hard for the good ones to survive though. If you like your manager, tell them. Have their back. You have no idea how many times good managers or even mediocre ones go to bat for you. They are constantly fighting for funding, resources, tools, tech for the team. And when RiFs come around, why they absolutely need all of you. It beats them down. And the bad managers absolutely do gang up on the good ones to push them out.

You assume the employees have the knowledge to do the job. It used to be the manager's job to technically develop them as well. Most managers today can not do this. Maybe you think that is a chief's role, but you are lucky if you have 1 chief per 100 employees in some areas.

The real job of a manager is to make sure that their subordinates have the tools to do their job. Those tools include, but are not limited to: tools, equipment, knowledge, and guidance. When a manager realizes that, they can be a good manager.

I've read elsewhere here on layoff that managers and directors have nothing to say about anything and are just pawns of the VPs. However, my former manager (I'm retired) was a cold, ruthless basted. He could have carried out his orders with a wit of compassion, but chose not to. If you really want to see how I feel about corporate leadership types, check the lyrics of Pink Floyd's "Dogs". It says it all.

Plenty of good managers and good people.
What this company lacks is hope and the guts to actually throw a party.
Most sour faced politically correct bunch of weasels I have ever encountered.
Why bother to try when their is no celebration of any victory.
And no...I mean celebration not a PowerPoint slide.
Beer, banquet, more beer.
