Remote = terminated

If you are fully remote in teamworks, its just a matter of time before you are replaced by cheap India labor. Lots of "remote" guys gone tdy!

That's good news, but this regimes approach has been intentionally incremental to avoid headlines and other drama. There's no doubt in my mind that CS and SP and a few others truly despise remote workers. They want to get rid of them all. Will they? It's a race against time. CS won't been here in 2 years, he'll move on or get moved on. There's 27k remote workers today. My guess is, in 2 years they'll be less than half that, but we'll see.

@1fab I was regularly told it would happen before Charlie, I was also regularly told it would be more likely to happen after Charlie.

Then covid hit and all I get is thanks and keep up the good work because our team is overworked (middle-upper management constantly repeats this) and still gets it all done.

I haven't heard sh-t since covid.

The post is remote = terminated. I'm remote and I'm still employed by Wells Fargo despite being too far from a hub/spoke to be forced in without offering me a package option. Please forgive my apathy about your chicken little prognostications that, so far, have spared me despite constant threats.

What do you mean "waiting for it to happen?" It's been going on since 2019, but was largely put on hold in March 2020 because of the pandemic and the optics of firing people when Wells was flagged by the government as a systemically critical company.

The location strategy dates to 2019 as everyone should know and remember. I had two co-workers who were planning their moves when the pandemic shutdown happened and the company put the location strategy on hold. In 2023 they replaced the strategy with just doing layoffs instead.

From public data, it was about 500 - 1000 layoffs a month from March through June and the rumors are they staffed up enough to potentially double the layoffs to 1000-2000 /month from here until the end of the year or whatever month they slow it down again.

The company is not releasing to the public what the final headcount should be, but many sources seem to add up to cutting 50,000 more US workers before the end of the decade.

There are thousands + of remote WF employees. It may happen but will take a long time to see this through.

Personally, I hope for that confidential meeting invite every single day. I’m ready.

@mzp keep telling yourself that you can run infosec tools and reports that people in other countries can't. Reporting on the start of outsourcing infosec (talk about overpaid salaries) started a few years ago.

There's no security in anything other than trades. Might have something to do with them having collective bargaining power.

Most people in mortgage are still remote. Peeps in the Minneapolis/St Paul area are remote until at least June of 2024, and that date will more than likely be pushed out again since they don’t have enough office space left to place us all. I don’t think they can afford to lay off anyone else in mortgage - we are stretched to this as is.
