Thread regarding USAA layoffs

What if I just don’t go in?

So I live within the 60 mile radius but it would be almost two hours a day commuting which I refuse to do. I’ve heard vague comments about it affecting my performance but I don’t fully understand the consequences of not going in and I can’t get a good answer from anyone

Bruh, don’t go in. Stick it to the man.

Just make sure to come back here in a few weeks to give us an update on your final meeting with HR

It's ironic...I distinctly recall during my NEO training that our trainer emphasized the importance of fostering a work environment that prohibits micro-management. It was emphasized that empowering employees and allowing for autonomy yields better results and promotes employee satisfaction.

Yet there are concerning practices within the company that contradict all principles we were taught. They are cutting corners and compromising the company's reputation, resulting in negative trust from both members and employees which was once a highly regarded organization.

Such practices will have long-term consequences. By laying off top talent, forcing voluntary attrition with RTO, or the best employees escaping on their own accord, the company may find itself in a worse position than it is now with potential for facing more excessive million-dollar consent orders in the future.

I am in the RTO boat as well and their deceptive practices su-k. My previous company had mass lay offs which I was spared; however, this resulted in me having twice the amount of work (no raise of course) plus they required RTO. I thought I found my dream job at USAA but I laugh now about how naive I was. Anyhow, fingers crossed I am part of the layoffs as I am actively applying elsewhere. This place is a joke.

I haven’t drank the Kool—aid I promise

1: They are trying to fix culture issues. Where are the culture issues? Lower / middle EMG (Wells & BoA). They applied RTO across the board but only truly endorsing it with these lower / middle EMG. They are they are the only ones truly being micro managed on this. If you are being micromanaged- your manager is being a Di-k.

2: Makes sense as it will be a possible end of year “lever” they may need to pull to make cuts / reduce bonuses to cut costs - its across the board enforce in September.

In January, life goes back to 2019. Id suspect that 12-18 months from now we will have new blood and a more modern view of what work environments looks like.

Just be patient. It’s not us: it’s them.

This would be considered insubordination. Considering the bad situation USAA is in right now (losses, devaluation, trying to shed employees, etc.), I think your idea is risky. Unless you have a backup plan (such as an emergency fund, and have started to look elsewhere for employment), I wouldn't recommend it.

Can anyone explain why they’ve tied RTO to performance?

If I don’t come in I get fired. But if I get fired, then I still won’t be in the office. Make it make sense!

If you do not abide by the company's policy, then you will be fired with cause. This means no unemployment or good recommendation. Reach out to your local Work Force Commission to see what you may qualify for. If you have a contract that states specifically that you are allowed to work remotely with no changes allowed to the agreement, then present that information. Cover yourself.

That should be the plan most people at USAA should pursue so that many of us can leave and watch the smoldering embers of USAA burn from a distance.

If you’re hoping Wayne is going to reverse his decision, it’s not happening. Come September, nothing will happen at first, but your manager will know. They’ll get a report each week of their direct report badge reports. Like another comment on here stated, at first nothing will happen. After a few weeks, your manager will ask why you aren’t coming in, then your manager will have their manager on their @$$ on why you refuse to come in, which means your manager will be on you. And that will eventually lead to corrective action. Just FYI, if you get placed on a verbal anytime during 2023, you’re only eligible for 50% of the bonus come March 2024. I understand, I live 42 miles from campus and on a good day, it’s a 90min drive in the morning and a 2hr drive in the evening. I’m already planning my exit, just do enough to meet my minimum job requirements, get the holiday bonus, then start applying elsewhere in January.

Wayne will sp--k your bottom like a naughty child. The EMG bootlickers will enjoy that I'm sure.

Exactly...the reason I am looking for a new remote position is so that the "collegues" working from home can continue to su-k the peacock long after I am gone. And I will be the one laughing.

Nothing would happen....at first. Eventually you would appear on some report stating you havn't gone into the office and your manager would give you flak about it. After a few months of this however your managers, manager wouold start getting on their case so you direct would eventually start getting on your a-s even harder about it even threatining adverse action. Depending on your role, you wouldn;t get terminated right away but they would start putting this in your monthly reviews and riding your hump about it weekly. If you make it to year end this would go in your end of year review and they would give you a minimal riase/bonus if any. Eventually however they will push you out, either make your life a living he-l until you quit or just terminate you ouright, this wouldnt be for many months after however. It really makes no difference how well you perform your job, senior leadership wants bodies in seats to justify their over spending on worthless office space. Colleagues who work from home will just laugh in your face as your dealing with this, no adverse effects to them whatsoever.
