Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Good luck to all tomorrow!

Here we are again. At the start of a month on a non-paycheck week. For those that want out with supplemental pay, may you get an invite with HR tomorrow. For those that need to continue to work to support yourself, family and others, I hope your Outlook calendar does not have any new meeting invites tomorrow morning. Best of luck to all regardless of which outcome you are hoping for.

Former HR, I was rif’d in 2019. Since Angela Brady, Anthem has been ongoing reorg/rif environment. It was stressful wondering if your number was up.

My own experience, my immediate manager had no input. Decisions are made at staff VP and above. Sometimes it’s a goal to reduce costs.

Wishing everyone the best, continue to add to your skills and network for an ongoing career in your field.

Yes, they were fired, but given the circumstances, it should tell you what management is capable of - one 2 weeks away from retirement , another on bereavement leave. Like I said, folks in the company knew she was fired before she did.

Let them know you'll yell racism, s-xism, ageism, whatever, even if it doesn't apply. They will leave you alone and target someone else. Even if that person is a good worker.

@1yhc+1sjtQ9ka SIU is the special investigation unit. And I was told they were fired. It wasn't a layoff. I trust the person who told me this.

@1asy+1sjtQ9ka fired? So with cause and not a RIF? Two different things. You don't get severance for being fired. They may even fight unemployment.

what is SIU?

In SIU they fired one woman who was 2 weeks away from retirement and another who was out on bereavement leave. For the bereavement person, co-workers knew she was fired before she did.

Forewarned is forearmed.

@fwx+1sjtQ9ka Layoffs at Elevance Health/Anthem is just like the sunrise. You can always expect another one soon. :)

@fwx+1sjtQ9ka A guy was riffed a few years ago. Shortly after signing the supplemental agreement, he logged out of the messaging system and never logged back in during the entire 30-day period. Not sure what he was doing that month, but you will have to hold onto the work laptop and not return it until the end of the rif period. The reaction will depend on who you are currently reporting to.

@fwx+1sjtQ9ka There are some exceptions, but its out of your control. Example, you get laid off and access were to be cut off that day. You should receive pay in lieu. After those couple of weeks you should receive your supplemental pay.

I think there a lot of people posting these statements when they have no idea if it’s going to happen, just like the rest of us. I think we just need to half expect something every 2 weeks until it does happen. Right now, I wish it would just be done already for me. Anyone fromHR out there??

@bnn+1sjtQ9ka we know that. Just asking if the person that posted this actually knows a RIF is happening or just assuming because it's a non pay Thursday.

90+% of the time in the past 20+ years RIF happens on a Thursday of a non pay week. There are some exceptions like @uog+1sjtQ9ka posted

You have to stay until your period is done to get the supplemental. There have been a couple of times (excluding varying state rules) where it has been longer than 30 days. (Exhibit A is from ~4 years ago when a bunch of stuff was outsourced to IBM and that was about a 5 month notice.)

If I get a notice can I ask to be released immediately or will they make me stay another 30 days?

Is this just a random post or do you actually know it's happening?

They’re getting real slick with it these days. When it happened to me it was on a Tuesday. I saw the “team meeting” invite and thought it was just that. Declined the meeting stating that I had a doctor’s appointment. Went to my appointment and they were blowing up my phone for me to join the call. Then I knew…

Nothing surprises me at this company anymore. Just don’t believe you’re safe if you make it past a Thursday of an off pay week. They’re so callous that they would probably pull you out of Sunday worship service to tell you that you’ve been RIFed.
