The least they could do is keep the bathrooms clean and not give people food poisoning. They should be ashamed for the state of the building.

@19x This is what I'm seeing as well. I don't think that they are going to eliminate WFH, but will make it so it's basically a dead end career move. I'm at the end of my career, so it doesn't affect me, but it makes me sad for this company.

@19x 100% agree. I applied to several lead jobs, got the HR screening interviews but was told every time that I had to be in the office 4x/day . Any exceptions would have to go through an EVP and the job has to be reposted as such . So basically, there are no internal job opportunities for ppl like me . I am currently remote and don’t live anywhere close to an office . How demoralizing . But I’m laying low and buying time. Usaa is taking advantage of the horrible job market to implement mandatory RTO even when it doesn’t make sense. We just hired a new FTE who is in the office all by himself. No one else on the team is in that office. This decision will come back to bite USAA later. If and when the job market improves , the employees will remember .

@1cc Yes, but I didn’t get a PIP. She told me that missing the 4 day requirement, will be reflected in my PE. I got on track with all my goals because 4 days is not on there. I was told my salary and bonus amounts would be lower if I didn’t start meeting it as of August moving forward. Did anyone else get the same message?

Can anyone confirm they have actually been put on a final notice or given a partially meets for not coming into the office? The MOST that I’ve experienced myself and I’ve seen happen is passive aggressive brow beatings and 10 minutes taken up during a 1:1 to discuss the topic. Where each time I say “okay”. Explain myself “I keep my calendar up to date”.

We were told new CEO means new philosophy and if you're remote (I was and don't live anywhere near an office) you will not be promoted and posting for a job would be extremely difficult (would need exec approval). In other words, we're going to make it hard on you to advance (how's that for motivation) so you'll eventually leave on your own so I did. It's better to have your sanity than to continuously swim upstream or feel like you aren't wanted/can't advance. And it's sad as I really enjoyed my team/work/USAA.

Can confirm. Originally didn’t care about people in office in department, but got hit by HR pretty heavily and now asking people to hit close to 16.

Idc how long they stay there for, just that HR doesn’t get involved

@ry is true - yep forced attrition, not for culture. They got rid of the culture team didn't they. We all see through the ruse.

I’m sure some form of return to office will be heavily talked about, and quite possible implemented. But seeing as how well they handled returned to Office initially I don’t think it’s gonna go over very well at all. They’re not care at the moment, but they’ll really care once their profits take a dive. And that’s something third-party representatives can’t recover for them.

The thing is unlike USAA, BAC, Chase, or Citi has offices in cities where people actually want to move to. As far as my hiring experience goes, unless someone has roots in SA, talents do NOT want to move here. Yes, we have the Dallas office, but most of the roles are still SA based. Look at NC. Leadership wanted to attract talent there but it was a dud. Sure, you can force anyone to RTO, but first need to do a reality check.

RTO is not about the culture or collaboration. It is about applying as much pain on employees to drive "natural attrition" and not pay severance. They are not stupid - they know everyone just sit on zoom all day - they simply don't care.

@qb you'll never hear an official word as Juan doesn't appear to be brave enough to stand behind this directive. Just expect a lot more questions from leaders for anyone under 16 days a month going forward.

Yeah any actual insight on when this blessed mandate is expected to come down officially or is this just all pot stirring? We have yet another reorg supposedly coming down in marketing this week, so the timing is interesting. Feels like musical chairs across the company right now.

Had USAA just been honest about RTO, and just said “it’s about the money, spending too much on utilities to have empty buildings, spending too much on house cleaning, we’re also getting pressure from city and state leaders, local businesses around USAA campuses are pressuring us since most of their revenue comes from USAA employees for lunch, happy hours after work and team outings” etc …

Instead, they double down on “building our culture”.

Looks like they cut expenses with house cleaning and maintenance, as the bathrooms seemed to be dirty most of the time and missing toilet paper and paper towels to dry your hands, and I know they haven’t cleaned in the work area as for the past 3 weeks the 8 dead roaches by the windows are still there.

Before the covid pandemic, USAA was pro-remote and that attracted a lot of talents from outside specially the young. It was the main attraction at the careers site. We had a great culture with both fully remote and not. So what is the rationale of mandating RTO for all again? Just because the other companies are doing it?

In my area someone was able to pull their CAMS receipts to prove they were in 16 days. HR came back and said some turnstiles are inconsistent in tracking.

@hk

What are you talking about? Juan was on the board when Wayne was CEO, he's 100% aligned with whatever Wayne did and probably was pushing Wayne for it himself along with the rest of the board back during covid.

My current theory, which is 100% speculative, is that Juan is waiting until the next time they need to do layoffs to implement more RTO or potentially call remote workers back to the offices.

"But USAA can't afford to lose remote employees!!!!"

They literally do not care, you're not special. Everyone saw how Twitter is still standing after losing 80% of their workforce was let go, and in 2025 we now have CEOs openly bragging about layoffs as accomplishments.

We're entering the beginning of the end of work - the coming years are going to be incredibly hard for all of us, and massive societal upheaval is guaranteed to come from this. It's going to get much, much worse from here on out.

@ga
Just like Wayne said last year about RTO, “it’s my decision so get use to it, or don’t.”

Juan doesn’t have the brass b@lls to go against Wayne’s decision. Plus, he has bigger issues to worry and focus more on, like the OCC and the bank being on a consent order going on 6 years!

All bank employees, no job is safe, if you’re not already looking externally or internally to get out of the bank, then you’re already behind the 8 ball. With the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) already set up at USAA, expect massive layoffs before October, bank wide.

@c4
This is true, our EMG sent our badge reports from January - June to us on Thursday, there some shady stuff going on. Showed that I’ve only hint 16 days 5 times this year, which is bullshhh, I’m there Tuesday-Friday, there has been only 2 instances where I was there less than 4, which was when I had Covid to start the year, then the inclement weather day in February.

I’m just going to start saving my receipts from the cafeteria everyday and placing them in an envelope for the current month.

Think of this way. (Not trying to be rude here…more funny not funny): over next 3-5 years about 80% of us will be gone between natural language / AI replacing contacting centers. Which will then allow most back office functions to be automated/ leverage AI.

Roughly seven months after AT&T called workers back to the office five days a week, CEO John Stankey has a message for employees: Get on board or get out.

Juan is a cowardly d-mbbuck, with a capital F. We can't hire or retain in Phoenix, no one wants to uplift their family to move to a boring city like San Antonio, yet WAN wants 5 day RTO. What will it cost? Besides the obvious? Again, no real strategy from the BoD or EC. Just protectionists/self preservation wannabe 'elitists'. Irony is we serve the member, they serve themselves. Hardly elite - just run of the mill execs rejected by real companies. USAA is just a cash cow for execs.

I believe all JAR are being re-evaluated for “business appropriateness” and “use” and “applicability” now. Our AVP said that going forward all JARs will need to be renewed annually.

Can confirm - HR is pinging leadership whenever a person doesn't hit 16 per month. Then the pressure goes downwards to not get hit by HR.

So far the dashboard doesn't have the amount of time, just if you went in or not
