Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Underwriting layoffs

What has everyone heard about Underwriting layoffs? I am currently in UW, specifically in business lines and we are just being told it is not affecting us at this moment except for the UW service assistants and Auto mod UW but it seems like everyone else is saying it will be all of UW that will be laid off eventually.

Yeah they are getting rid of entry level and data entry roles in UW. UW production was a dream job for many, no phones, just task work, applying policy standards, and reviewing requests. They want everyone to be stressed out bickering on the phone, and with modernization of the UW systems, theyll need way less button pressers.

Right now they seem to be shoveling all UW entry level into claims while hiring off shore workers, who preform terribly btw, and integrating an AI that is worse somehow than the BPOs.

The amazing thing from my point of view is how horrible state farm is at its two core roles as a company, claims and underwriting.

This is all going on during record UW losses from the company due to claims. If your not seeing the connection between claims preforming poorly due to being understaffed on purpose, being poorly trained, and ruining UW, then your probably an executive in bloomington.

i really thing at this pace we will be neck and neck with safeco and the general for cut rate low quality insurance, and i guess thats what the board of directors wants.

If you want to be with a quality insurance company you should just apply to chubb or progressive. state farms going the cheapo insurance company route. Next up is to axe the agency!

@as boats are a fire policy. Why wouldn't a fire usa/und be working boats. They always have.

Underwriting is all about numbers, data, metrics. It was also the only job I did at State Farm that didn’t require me to be on the phone or face to face with customers and providers all day.
It’s simply going to be the easiest function to replace with AI, whether we like it or not.

Don't go to claims, I did and this place is an insane asylum! They treat everyone like total garbage. Everyone here is looking for another job! As bad as it can get. Take your severance and go do something else not insurance!

@b0 You are correct! Everyone should read this hypothetical article from 2028 looking back at AI advancements and the impact on the economy and society:
https://www.citriniresearch.com/p/2028gic

If even 25% correct, the impacts will be enormous.

My apologies but please use this neat thing called the internet! When all the heads of all the Fortune 500 companies, including SF, say that AI will eliminate 50-70% of all jobs that people do today, in the next 5 years, they are not joking. Data entry jobs, processing apps, Necho, the whole error based U/W system is done. Plus anything from a policy rating, change or underwriting standpoint. If anything is left it will be outsourced to some company like Everise that we are already using. If you are in U/W you are in a zombie profession. AI investing has been $1.5 trillion in 2025 and will exceed $2 trillion by 2026. It is not science fiction! Your smoking something if you think you will have a job in U/W in the next 2-3 years! Prepare!

I am a Fire USA, and we were told that they only need 20-40 employees, and that in order for us to go to claims, we would have to apply. They are presently placing the heavy hitters on projects so that we don't process applications. We are on projects with no extra pay. Have you ever heard of fire doing boats? Can you say busy work!

@aj what about necho policies though? That still needs manual underwriting and service to process apps and necho pt’s, so are you referring to policy center states? I know once everything migrated to policy center and necho is completely gone then I could see them replacing us with AI. But it’ll be a long time before res and clups migrate to policy center.

Underwriting/Underwriters has not existed in with most major carriers/companies for at least a decade! SF is the last to the show. All of U/W will be automated within 2 years and AI will automate most jobs like that within the next 3-5. Most banks, mortgage carriers, insurance companies etc... all have automated underwriting with very little exception handling, if any. Yes State Farm is stringing you along. If they told you your job would be done in the next 24 months people would jump ship. They only have their best interests in mind, not yours. They will lie to your face and not blink an eye. State Farm is a sh-t hole and do not under any circumstances take a job in claims. It is a torture chamber and treat everyone like excr-ment.
