Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

UP Dispatchers

How many more quarter-zip pullovers with Iron Pulse logos will it take to buy your job? UP is doing this to keep you distracted from the fact they are trying to eliminate your positions. They even tell you in the Town Hall meetings they are using technology to consolidate as many dispatching desks as possible. Meanwhile, Vena has promised the NS ATDA dispatchers their jobs through a protection agreement. What has he promised you as a "valued member of the management team"? Nothing, absolutely nothing. In 2020 they cut people who only had a few years left to fulfill their 360 months for the full Railroad Retirement annuity. They will do it again! You are not special. This is not about being against the company; it's about protecting the career you dedicate and give so much of yourself to. You are trading small prizes for a possible guaranteed job, guaranteed wage increases, much better health care during your working years, health care after you retire, and protection against territory/dispatcher consolidations.

I hope you are enjoying your poker chips, quarter zip pullovers, AMP parking spots, and denied vacation days. Meanwhile, ATDA dispatchers at "the other railroad" are enjoying a guaranteed $140k per year, time and a half for working off assignment, premium healthcare, and a staffed office so they can have the vacation time they earned on the days they want it. Quit being foolish.

Union Pacific just mailed you the Harriman Dispatch Center newsletter with a separate 1/4 page inside touting their agreement with the NS dispatchers and them having a "job for life." UP has boasted about this on the UP homepage, now sending it out in a newsletter, Pham spoke about it in the town halls, UP put it on their social media, and Jim had it in his quarterly letter. Where is our guarantee? There is not one. They want to get rid of people or have you put down in your TPT a location you want to move to so they can filter you out of the Harriman and then cut you out of a job somewhere else. The UP's audacity is at an all time high. Wake up! Send in an A card and let's get the best ATDA agreement in North America before the UP ruins our workforce while catering to the NS dispatchers.

@3jz who cares if the dispatchers don't protect themselves by becoming ATDA members? These people you mention will be gone and no one will be there to "crack you up"

MSK is working another desk, and TLH- Todd, - BIG DOG, is still dispatching the LA dispatcher desks, 2-48 & 2-50 .
Todd cracks me up every time he comes in and let me know if it works for you!

Just give me clear signals from West Coltion to Port of LA / Long Beach.
I wanna get home!

They just told you in the April Town Hall what the plan is: keep pushing technology, keep reducing dispatcher desks, and keep reducing employees. They admitted combining desks at the NS takes about six months and requires a scope of work assessment, safety assessment, and notification to the dispatchers with a full displacement to bump to another job. At the good old HDC, they combine territories like it's a sport and restrict your displacement movement to make it easier for the schedulers and operations support. There is no regard to your tenure, experience, and sacrifices. They know you are too scared to vote in a union which is why they can be so blatant. If you are not sending in an A card, you are kissing your job goodbye.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone still trusts Vena at this point. That's a man who's been named in previous lawsuits and has NEVER been honest about anything since being at the UP. His PSR plan was a massive failure that was even called out by congress, but he was nowhere to be found when the questions started coming in. He's actually convinced himself that he knows what he's doing, but his actions are saying otherwise. He cut way too deep and left Fritz along with the other executives to answer for it when congress came knocking for the sh!t service. Guess what? Nothing has changed except Vena is now the CEO. The service is still sh!t. Every location I've heard of or seen is fudging numbers. Management is flying around like a fa-t in a tornado doing everything possible to write people up for ANYTHING! That same management is always questioning why the employee surveys are garbage. Yeah, those only got worse even though Omaha has claimed they're more positive. The whole merger thing is a straight uphill battle for the goons in Omaha. If Vena and his team were being honest at all, then their merger application wouldn't have been rejected as incomplete. Why wasn't all of the information they requested in that application the first time. Why did the UP omit information that the STB clearly stated was needed. What is the UP trying to hide? The so-called jobs for life agreements are horsesh!t. Does anyone really think that there isn't some clause in their that wouldn't nullify the contract partially or entirely to satisfy employment levels? You go ahead and trust those agreements if want to. Vena made those up to put a quick band-aid on the huge morale problem at the UP. In short, the UP is just a place that no one wants to be at anymore. The management there is incredibly deceptive and dishonest in every sense. Vena needs this merger to go through because his name has already been tarnished from all of the layoffs. If the merger does go through, he can retire shortly after, and backslap himself for creating a larger mess that he sees as an achievement. Having a job at the UP or at any RR, has become a national embarrassment at this point. The railroads took a beating due to the failures of PSR. Soroban had Fritz ousted so they could get Vena to replace him, and now that activist investor is no longer a shareholder of UP stock. Why did Soroban get rid of all of their UP stock?? They have Fritz ousted, put Vena in his place, and then sell every UP share they have shortly after?? What are they hiding??? DO NOT trust anyone that's a manager at the UP! THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS AND THEY WILL SC--W YOU OVER TO PROTECT THEIR OWN JOBS.

Didn’t they sway the dispatchers a few years ago to stay company officers and not go union, they voted on staying c.o. and then soon after they cut like 30% of them and gave them more territory to cover!????
…….
The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

UP has no shame in posting on their own home page they have reached a protection agreement between the ATDA and the NS train dispatchers to guarantee their employment. Meanwhile, they have said nothing about the future of the current UP train dispatchers who currently work for the company. Instead you are constantly being told you are not good enough and if you don't use the defective AMP planner you could be terminated. If you are a UP dispatcher accepting this type psychological abuse and have not sent in an A card, then you are being foolish.
